Product Description:

This 75-page book tells a story of childhood bravery during the German occupation of France during WWII. Ten Jewish children are brought to a school where twenty other children are staying during the war. They forge friendships and play games that involve finding ways of hiding the Jewish children. When Nazis come to search the school, the games end and the children have to band together to protect themselves and their friends. This wonderful story of courage and loyalty includes several black and white illustrations. ~ Rachel S.

Category Description for Beautiful Feet History & Geography:

Beautiful Feet curriculum takes a multi-level, living book approach to teaching history, geography and world cultures, using easy to use Guides for the teacher and engaging, well-written literature for the student. The Guides provide book lists, chapter readings, discussion and research questions, background information, website links, answer keys, and more. See our website for lists of literature resources to accompany each guide. Most guides provide content for one year of study, with the exception of Geography through Literature and Western Expansion. The latter two are recommended to be completed together for one year of study. Numbers of lessons vary, and are scheduled 1 to 4 days per week. Recommended Timelines are available individually or in a set of two. Timelines are cardstock and include the figures referenced in the study. Students will need to color, cut and assemble the timeline and figures. History and geography come alive with these well done literature guides. See our website for required books for each guide. Some guides and resources contain Christian content while others do not; contact us for additional information.

This is an incredible true short story! While it may be a 6th grade reading level I read it aloud to my 4 and 5 year old boys and they loved it! The first time through I read the five chapters in one day because they kept begging for more Since then they've asked me to read it again It really ties in the persecution of the Jews from Jesus' times and its similarity to WWII It is intense though it didn't scare my kids We had to stop often to talk about cruelty and loyalty and generosity It conveyed food shortage so that my kids could begin to grasp what it might be like It also ended beautifully in a way that had everyone laughing and smiling! I think it's a great book to introduce the seriousness of war and persecution while showing children's bravery and joy to be triumphant I'm sure we will enjoy this book as a family for many years to come
