Publisher Description:

A Reason For Handwriting Level K begins with exercises to practice the mechanics of handwriting (such as making circles and straight or slanted lines). After eight such lessons, the student work text then proceeds to lowercase letter formation and practice, followed by upper case. There are 52 two-page lessons focusing on each letter of the alphabet in upper and lower case, with nine two-page review lessons appearing periodically through the course of the work. The book concludes with four two-page review lessons.

Category Description for A Reason for Handwriting:

An appealing, full-color Christian handwriting program that provides instruction and practice in handwriting (traditional style) with about 30 lessons per level (except for K which has 49). Each level has a letter designation, with a whole book for transition from manuscript to cursive in between B and C. The Transition book contains content from both Book B (print) and Book C (cursive) and you can use in place of either Book B or Book C, depending on your student's needs (see PDF sample for more information on using the Transition Book). Starting in Book C, all handwriting is cursive. In the more advanced levels, discussion questions accompany the weekly Bible verse. One more change to note is the height of the lines; they are smaller in the cursive section of the Transition Book or Book C (3/8") than in the previous books (manuscript books have 5/8" lines). The manuscript and cursive border sheets are also revised, and are now included with the workbooks. These nicely bordered lined papers challenge students to write their scripture verses on them "in their best handwriting." (Scripture verses are taken from the Living Bible.) The student desk card shows manuscript and cursive letters on a personal-sized card, or you can put the big letters up on the wall using the alphabet wall sheets. One comprehensive teacher's guide covers the whole series. Please note that sets are also available, which include the student book and teacher guide at a discount. ~ Melissa

I am working on my fifth and last student with handwriting K! I am so excited about it. This has been a low pressure curriculum allowing for regular practice that has improved my other student's writing. I have never used their teacher's manual. This is great! And it looks so cute for my little one. I also have really enjoyed that the kids are practicing God's word weekly.

How many lessons are in this book?
A shopper on Mar 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The book has 52 lessons, each one page front and back. The front page is practice printing the letter, the back has a word to trace and picture to color, i.e. lesson 34 is Ff, the back has the word fish to trace and a picture of a fish to color. Throughout the book there are many review pages in addition to the regular lesson pages.

Sweet intro to handwriting
This is a very gentle and sweet introduction to handwriting. Each letter is given a page of practice on nice, wide lines. The back has a drawing of an animal that begins with that letter for the child to color. I would not use any other program for young children just learning to write.

Short lessons are a plus.
My Kindergartner loves to do this class first thing in the morning all on his own. The lessons are short enough to not become tiresome. The only reason I did not give this 5 stars is because the handwriting lines provided are giant. I do wish the lines were more practical in size. My boy loves this book and is breezing through it.

We are using this program for the first time this year We are currently doing the K (kindergarten) and the Manu B (2nd grade)books I love that the teacher's guide covers all levels of the course I decided to purchase ARFH because of the way God and scripture are both incorporated into the lessons We love the colorful pages and the blank scripture sheets in the back of the Manu A & B books My daughter enjoys getting to choose which sheet she will use to write her weekly Bible verse My kindergartner loves the coloring page that accompanies each lesson along with the lesson about that particular subject She does struggle a bit with the "tree house" method of learning to write letters She has a very short attention span and I think it's a bit much for her to comprehend I think the method used in Handwriting Without Tears may be a better fit for her Overall I would recommend this product

LOVE this Have been using this year for my K-4 son Boys typically develop fine motor skills (necessary) for good handwriting later than girls and one thing that I really like with this curriculum is the sizing It was about 1 1/2 times larger than the leading textbook company's K4 book we tried first There is a picture to color on the back of the pages and that provided a good incentive for my son to do the workpage! The Teacher's Edition covers all the grades K-6 so it's a one time purchase I would recommend it for K level students as there is a lot of helpful handwriting information as well as additional information about the pictures - almost makes it a cross-curriculum resource I would also recommend the Student Desk Card for each student to reference

A Reason for Handwriting K provides wonderful exercises for pre-writing by practicing circles in the correct direction before you get to writing actual letters The teacher guide is very helpful giving good hints for both teaching and supervising the mechanics of handwriting things like good posture and paper positioning Also one teacher's edition covers all levels of the program My only criticism of this program is that there is no practice of writing numbers However if the math program you use covers this like Saxon does then you won't miss it

I am using A Reason for Handwriting K with my 4 year old daughter It is working pretty well for us It is a traditional "ball and stick" type of handwriting program The workbook starts off with a short introduction to basic pencil strokes - circles diagonal lines etc It then introduces the beginning writer to proper way to write the different letters of the alphabet both upper and lower-case It uses the concept of a treehouse to teach children how big or little to make the letter (ie a capital "D" touches the roof of the treehouse while a lower-case "a" does not) Unlike the other workbooks in this series this one does not have the children copying scriptures Instruction is limited to writing the letters One of the best features of this workbook are the coloring pages As each letter is introduced there is a corresponding picture of an animal or object that begins with that letter of the alphabet My daughter enjoys coloring the pictures and it is good motivation for her to try her best I do recommend this book We have found it pretty easy to use although probably helps that my daughter has about a year of previous handwriting practice If your child gets easily frustrated you might want to look into the Handwriting Without Tears series instead This one is working for us and I like the emphasis on scripture that is found in the more advanced workbooks

I am so excited about this set of handwriting workbooks! So far we have only used kindergarten (K) My daughter learned a lot from them this year from the correct formation of letters to letter sounds to various kinds of animals We were even able to use this as a jumping off point to study various kinds of animals After the P page which has a picture of a penguin on the back we dove into a study of penguins looking on the internet for what type of food they eat checking out books from the library and finally taking a trip to the Zoo The treehouse graphic was very helpful too I can't wait to start the first grade book my plan is to use the scripture verses as our memory verse as well
