Category Description for COMPLETE ENGLISH PROGRAMS:

These materials offer complete coverage of both writing and grammar.

Category Description for OTHER PROGRAMS:

Language arts programs listed in this section cover some combination of reading/literature, writing, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, handwriting or typing but do not attempt to cover all of those skill areas.

An option for those who want to employ the methods of Charlotte Mason in their English program. Reprints of texts used in the early 1900s, these contain black/white period illustrations (incorporated into the lessons), memorization, classic literature excerpts, narration, dictation, copy work and composition. Instruction is self-contained. These are very simple to use - just open up and go. Lessons are presented in small, manageable pieces with many exercises done orally, making these an attractive choice for the student as well. Teacher's Guides provide instructional information for the teacher (i.e. these words are prepositions, words that show position, direction ...) and answers as well as extended activity suggestions and directions (i.e. create a preposition mobile by...). Teacher aids include reproducible grading rubrics, writing and dictation worksheets, calendar (primary), envelope, story map (intermediate) and Venn diagram masters. Primary is 164 lessons; Intermediate is 301 lessons.

I'm a veteran homeschool mom of nine children, but now am needed to teach an autistic grand daughter. This program looked approachable for both of us. She has been in public school, and is behind in all subjects. I need something that is tried and true. Really like that memory work is part of it too!

This is the text for my daughters 4th grade hybrid school. They used Primary Language Lessons for 3rd grade. Highly recommend for a gentle intro to grammar and writing in the early grades. We use this along with Writing with Ease and Fix it Grammar.

We have the primary version, and are moving onto the intermediate. It's not the most exciting text, and my kids groan when they have to do some of the assignments (poetry memorization), but I love that they're being exposed to good habits as well as to rules and practices that they'll remember, instead of other language arts curriculum that they do quickly and forget.

recommended by a friend & because our current english program has been too stressful for Mother & children. :)

Enjoy and appreciate the results of combining this concept of language presentation along with a more definitive style program.

Intermediate Language Lessons has been one of our best homeschooling finds for curricula Meant to be used for grades 4-6 (Primary Language Lessons covers grades 1-3) this book is a gentle easy to use Charlotte Mason (CM) approach that helps to build a love for language The lessons are varied enough to keep interest by rotating between dictation narration copy work composition memorization and picture study The lessons require little to no teacher preparation-- just open the book and start-- and are short in length Our family originally taught language through a more rigid and time consuming program so at first I was concerned they weren't getting enough language practice I have since come to know that Intermediate Language Lessons is a very comprehensive program Not only do I enjoy using it but my children enjoy it too
