Category Description for Historical Novels by G. A. Henty:

Adventure stories don't get any better than this! Plus, the reader is drinking in history without even trying! Even though G. A. Henty authored these books in the late 19th century, and the stories are set hundreds of years before that, the tales he tells are timeless. Bravery, chivalry, heroism, leadership, faithfulness, determination and wisdom abound in these reprints. In some of the stories, the advance or defense of Christianity is also an important part of the story. These books were originally written for boys, but anyone young or old who enjoys a good adventure story will want to read these. Available in hardbound, softcover and "featherweight" (mass market) editions.

Please note that we offer Henty books from two different publishers. We are listing them chronologically regardless of publisher. The hardcovers and softcovers differ in price between the publishers, so they are marked as being either Oregon Institute (O) or Library & Educational Services (L).

We also offer audios from two different companies. Please see descriptions for these products directly after all of the Henty novels.

As he usually does Henty takes an event in history and spins an exciting tale! Beric is a young chief in Roman-occupied Britain who aids in the Briton's unsuccessful insurrection against their tyrants He's captured and sent to Rome for a few years where he becomes a gladiator and than an attendant to Nero until he flees back to his country During this fun tale Henty gives much information of ancient Britain the life of a gladiator the burning of Rome and the Christian persecution Some may feel inclined to stop reading this after the first few chapters due to much talk of the pagan religion of ancient Britain but these sections are small and mainly in those first few chapters and Beric isn't too inclined in following this religion much; in the end he converts to Christianity
