As part of our family's unit study of Ancient Israel we enjoyed reading Hittite Warrior during our read aloud time We have three sons and a two daughters from toddler age through highschool that listened to the adventure or Uriah the Hittite as he encountered various people groups from the time period of the Judges It was easy to "see" what life was like for him Although the little one fell asleep during readings the rest were totally involved with the storyline and could carry on conversations about the events quite easily relating them to the facts and dates that we've been covering for the time period Our oldest son commented on how books like this make history come to life and help relate the past to the present Lessons of how people demonstrate empathy or disdain foolishness or helpfulness pride or humility were learned through a young man's "eyewitness account" of events that took place long ago This book did more to develop our understanding of the time period than any textbook could hope to impart
