Central to the Child-Size Masterpieces program, carefully explained in the How to Use Child-Size Masterpieces for Art Appreciation (A108), this companion book contains 36 postcard-size images of paintings from all periods of art history. Chosen to appeal to young children, each reproduction is color-coded and imprinted on the back with title/artist and the step and level for which the image may be used.

This book includes:

  • 12 cards (6 artists) for matching identical paintings (Step 1)
  • 12 cards (6 artists) for pairing two similar paintings by the same artist (Step 2)
  • 12 cards (3 artists) for grouping four paintings by the same artist (Step 3)

Contains reproductions from the following artists: Renoir, Van Gogh, Durer, American School, Miro, Matisse, Goya, Chagall, Degas, Manet, Mondrian, Audubon, Kandinsky and Cezanne.

To make cards, cut out the 4¾" x 6½" images and laminate, if desired. Ages 3+.

I like the idea of holding a picture and matching in order to learn and appreciate art pieces.

These will go in the "Gramma Box" as fun activities (matching at first - later identification) to do with my 2-5yo grandsons. What a great way to introduce them to fine art!

Do you need the "how to use" guide to go along with this?
A shopper on May 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I think that depends on how you plan to use the materials. If you'd like to follow the steps they lay out, then yes you need the "How to" guide. However, if you have an art background or are creative with the information available in the different sets, you could do what you like with the artwork. I chose to purchase the guide book. :)

Children love it and learn so much about art
Child-sized masterpieces is an excellent resource for introducing even small children to artists, art styles, and art appreciation. My children (ages 2-5) love working with it and learn so much.

We pulled this out today for the first time in several years and my 3 year old was very successful at Level 1 and 2 activities (matching) and really enjoyed it Her 7 year old sister helped by explaining why the pictures went together and "checking the answers" by reading the artists names on the backs My 7 year old knows where we keep the sets and is able to pull them out and use them independently at any time I like the fact that at first it is a matching "game" and you can even play memory with smaller children More information is given as you go up and my older daughter is ready and interested to learn about the artists Set up is very easy and takes less than 20 minutes per level if you have a paper cutter Very good quality reproductions on sturdy cardstock
