Category Description for Key To Math (Gr. 4-12):

The Key To... series is a very self-instructional, unintimidating, programmed learning series. Covering seven basic topics, students can work through these horizontally or vertically. They are ideal for "homework" or a more topical approach to the subject. Presentation is done in a simple, friendly manner, incrementally, and with examples to follow as needed. Workbooks are thin and consumable. Answer keys are recommended. Order by the book or in sets.

We like this series because it encourages children to tackle these subject areas in as much depth as they can, rather than working strictly within the confines of an age-graded math program. Starting in 4th or 5th grade, I purchased a complete set of student workbooks for each child. Book 1 in each topic was put on the school book shelf. When Key to... was assigned, my children were free to work on whatever topic they chose, and they worked as much as they wanted. As soon as Book 1 in any subject was completed, it was replaced by Book 2. My oldest daughter sometimes got so involved that she just kept going!

I bought the key to algebra set through the Florida Empowerment Scholarship program but it did not include nor give me the option of purchasing the tests through them.

To use as a supplement to another Algebra curriculum. We have used other Key To books and have loved them!

I bought the tests to go along with the booklets. This will help me make sure that my child is mastering the concepts. Good for transcript grades.

My past experiences with Key give me confidence that my students will achieve noticeable success. I have been able to depend on Key to devise fair and targeted test questions that correlate with the workbooks' goals. In particular, the spacing, typing, and print support math challenged students' needs.

I wanted to try something new. I have been teaching Algebra for over 10 years and needed something different. My daughter did ok, but the black and white pages boring (her words). It made it difficult for her to want to do math. Overall I thought it was well written, but not challenging.

can the keys to algebra be used as high school credit, if so how many for completing all 10 books and tests?
A shopper on May 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes. All 10 are needed to earn 1 credit. Each book has a practice test and the teacher's manual/key has the reproducible tests with all answers in them. It will need to be purchased separately. This is not a "hard" algebra curriculum, but if your child needs more practice and examples and may not be strong in math this is a good alternative to other curricula. I don't believe this would be a good math for students below middle school. (I hope this helps). I have taught high school math for over 10 years, in private schools, tutoring and homeschooling, and it covers all of the material at a basic to middle level. However, I would not recommend it to a student wanting to go into a Math or Science field at the college level.
