Product Description:

By Penny Gardner, author of Charlotte Mason Study Guide, this book is an excellent introduction to the recorder. Created for children, and non-musically-inclined adults, Penny presents the nine-note recorder method in an easy to learn, step-by-step approach. In the front of the book are the finger positions, instruction on how to read music, and tips for playing the recorder comfortably. To start with, only the three notes B, A, and G are introduced, along with thirteen songs to practice on before the next notes are brought into play. From there, you proceed to learn the rest of the notes, while practicing various songs along the way. In all, students learn 147 songs and over 50 duets and rounds, with a mix of children's songs, folk songs, early music, classics, Native American music, multicultural pieces, and Christmas songs. As an added bonus, the back cover pops into a stand, so you can easily display the music. - Stephanie

    Good recorder program
We've worked through the first five notes, and I'm pleased at how well my kids are doing with this book. I like the spiral binding that allows it to stand up while they play. There are a lot of songs that they enjoy playing, and a lot more to look forward to

I cannot say enough good things about this program We have used it for a year now and are into Book 2 The program is well laid out very clear and builds on each previously learned skill in a way that allows the child to feel a sense of mastery early on In part I think this is because of the songs chosen Penny Gardner has done a wonderful job in selecting songs that are melodic yet simple thus giving a child the sense of actually playing something musical as opposed to playing a simple arrangements of notes with a title The songs have been chosen from various traditions and range from Mozart and Bach to Native American Indian Catalan Renaissance Maori (these are among the prettiest!) and many more Halfway through the book there is an opportunity to play duets together with your child This has been the most fulfilling part of the program for us playing lovely music together It has given a sense of purpose to our lessons to be able to support the melody with a harmony or to carry the melody while one of us plays harmonyWhile I do have some recorder experience I can say with confidence that this method would be easy for any parent with no recorder experience to use You would simply be learning along with your child In short I highly recommend this program

If you can't afford piano lessons or to buy an expensive instrument never fear! The recorder is a wonderful and inexpensive way to introduce music into your curriculum There's really no excuse For under $15 anyone can have music lessons thanks to this book and an inexpensive recorder Your child will learn how to read music on a music staff and learn to develop his/her musical ear When you complete this book the author has several other available on her website including duets and Christmas music This book has a handy built-in "stand" so you won't even need to buy a music stand for practice time The recorder is probably the easiest instrument on the planet to learn how to play Even non-musical parents can join in on the fun This method is well thought out It includes a complete fingering chart with musical notation Like the title says you will be learning 9 notes; however a wide variety of tunes can be played even with just the 9

We found this an easy-to-use introduction to the recorder for our first grader Recorders are a great first instrument and music-reading skills will be readily transferable to learning another instrument Add two inexpensive recorders to this book and you've got a great music curriculum for a young child and it will be easy even for parents without a musical background to teach
