Teachers Editions provide detailed lesson plans and are necessary to use with the workbooks. They feature minimized reproductions of student pages with the answers filled in and also provide scripted instructions, teaching suggestions, test-taking tips, and objectives for the topic being covered. The student workbooks are filled with tests in the standardized, fill-in-the bubble format that students will encounter at the various grade levels. Approximately 20-30 tests are included in each workbook and cover the skills related to each test. Students fill in bubbles directly on the pages (please note that the workbooks are not reproducible so each student will need their own). The final unit in the student book is made up of practice tests, where students can use what they've learned throughout the book. There are no answers or teaching tips in the student books, which is why the teacher books are needed. In using this series, students become familiar with both following oral directions and the terminology on the tests and they get plenty of practice with actually taking tests.

Category Description for Scoring High:

The ultimate in specialized, standardized test preparation! If your children are required to take standardized tests, you'll appreciate being able to familiarize them and prepare them beforehand. Even if tests are optional for you, you may be curious to know how they would perform on such a test. This series is excellent for spotting weaknesses in test-taking skills or gaps in learning. Long considered the standard in test-specific preparation, Scoring High is very complete and easy to use. Teacher's Editions provide detailed lesson plans and are necessary to use with the workbooks. They feature minimized reproductions of student pages with the answers filled in and also provide scripted instructions, teaching suggestions, test-taking tips, and objectives for the topic being covered. Student and Teacher books are both softcover and the number of pages varies by grade level. Most of the test series below have been updated since we first offered Scoring High (with the exception of the CAT5 series). Some content has been updated as well, in keeping with changes in the tests. Please note that prices on this series have increased over time as the publisher is no longer providing volume discounts to retailers. The publisher is also not selling to individuals without teaching certificates, so we are continuing to stock this series, but our prices will be higher due to this change in policy.

I am using this for an overall review of 5th grade, as well as the annual test prep I do with my kids before they take the Stanford.

I'm a former NYC Middle School Principal and have ordered material from Kaplan in the past. Their material has always been on target. I hope this is as well.

I wonder why this test hasn't been updated to align with the Common Core standards?
A shopper on May 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Common Core are standards that are being used to align with the new national test that is being normed and focuses on language arts and math. SAT10 is a normed test and is still used to test in all subjects areas, if your state chose not to go with the Common Core standards it is likely that SAT 10 or IOWA is being used as its state assessment.
Is this the latest version. It seems it hasn't been published in a while?
A shopper on Jan 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: These are published in relation to a specific test - the SAT/10. Since the test has not changed, this test prep book has not been updated.

I bought Scoring High SAT Version (5th grade) to help my son prepare to take his first standardized test This student book and teachers manual were very helpful and did a good job of preparing my son for the test The one draw back is that this book does not provide any practice problems for the Social Studies or Science portions of the test And frankly not being familiar with the testing I assumed they would not be covered since they were not covered in Scoring High It would have been nice to have seen some sample questions in these areas especially considering that what we cover at home isn't necessarily what is covered in a school classroom However the tools my son learned from using Scoring High did help him make some wise answer choices on the many unknown topics Although his scores for Social Studies and Science were by far some of the lowest on the test he did extremely well on the test as a whole I plan to use this curriculum again for both sons
