Category Description for Mapping the World By Heart:

Your children can become junior cartographers and learn to "map the world by heart," literally, with this wonderful aid to geographical literacy. Amazing results are achieved by using this incremental program which gives students a real sense of the world's layout. A variety of wonderful activities are used to develop both map-drawing and map-reading skills. The lessons are clear and easy to use, with helpful illustrations. While not as comprehensive as a high-school geography course, this program does include the study of different cultures and global issues related to geography. It would work well as a stand-alone course for late elementary grades or junior high, or in conjunction with a geography text in high school. The program was revised and updated in 2010 and now includes the curriculum (in 3-ring binder) and a set of 17 maps. The set of maps includes 10 regional maps (Canada, U.S., Mexico, Central America, South America, Africa, Europe, Eastern Europe and North Asia, South Asia, and Oceania) as well as blank grids and filled-in outline maps of the world in Mercator, Robinson and Equirectangular projections. Additional map sets are also available separately. Three additional appendices have been added to the curriculum, which apply the "mapping by heart" method to the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, for smaller, more focused studies. The video that was previously packaged with the curriculum is now available for viewing at the publisher's website, www.fablevision.com/mappingtheworldbyheart.

i used the curriculum with my 4 children (now grown) when we homeschooled. I now use it for my grandchildren. Loved the approach and the ability to customize projects.

I teach high school geography and I use these every year. Students love learning by doing and retain much just from labeling and coloring. Online maps aren't big enough for labeling whole regions of the world, but mountains and rivers cover more than a small map or one country. These provide a bigger picture of what regions look like. The grids give exact placement, and the blank maps are great for students to show what they've learned.

I am using Mapping the World by Heart curriculum and I love to have a set of these maps for each student's use.

I have used these maps with BJU Cultural Geography - high school co-op class I teach for 10 years. They are folded to 8x11 and fit perfectly into page protectors and the student's pocket folders. One side is physical and the other political. I use the blank outline maps as extra credit quizzes throughout the year. They use colored pencils on white world map to indicate physical features and label with pens on their final exam.

I bought this so I could work along with my 12 year old daughter. The work book only comes with one set. I recommend buying several to do along with family and friends. They are too large for your basic home copier.

Are 25 SETS of the individual region maps included in this set or is it 25 single whole world maps?
A shopper on Jan 3, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The extra set of map does includes 25 items. This is not a set of 25 single whole world maps. Instead it is a set that duplicates the set included with the curriculum. This is a set of 17 maps that includes 10 regional maps (Canada, U.S., Mexico, Central America, South America, Africa, Europe, Eastern Europe and North Asia, South Asia, and Oceania) as well as blank grids and filled-in outline maps of the world in Mercator, Robinson and Equirectangular projections. The extra pieces are blank grids and filled in outline maps for North America, Mexico, Canada, and the USA.
which USA maps do you recommend to go along with the US part of the Mapping the world by heart curriculum?
A shopper on Aug 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: These are from a different publisher but will provide US maps - #14622 - http://www.rainbowresource.com/proddtl.php?id=014622

Extensive map set!
I use this set every year for teaching high school geography. I don't use a lot of the 8 1/2" x 11" maps, but give each student the colored 11x17 maps to label. I use the two black and white large format maps for extra credit throughout the year. There are maybe 10 smaller sheets that I just recycle, but the USA, Canada, and Mexico sheets might be good for labeling individual states/provinces.

Excellent curriculum with good supplement
I like the Mapping the World by Heart curriculum for middle school or even early high school when supplemented with reading about various cultures, religions, governments, countries, etc. I also assign projects or papers on various countries to supplement the map work. I do like how detailed this is and how much one learns about the world just by mapping. I have found a couple minor mistakes, such as the route of a river or leaving out a river (on the full world map), but overall these are very nice maps.
