Category Description for Adventures in Phonics:

A series of worktexts designed to present phonetic skills in a logical sequence, along with consistent review and repetition to ensure proficiency. From Christian Liberty, some exercises contain religious references, and a high moral tone exists throughout. Teacher’s manuals provide complete instructions for each concept presented as well as an answer key. Level A skills include: short vowel sounds, consonant sounds, short vowel words, blends, consonant digraphs, long vowels, ow & ou, oi & oy, r-controlled vowels, vowel y, -ing, -ies plurals, silent consonants, and compound words. Level B instruction includes: short vowels, consonants, consonant blends, double consonant endings, consonant endings, consonant digraphs, Long vowels, diphthongs, vowel digraphs, modified vowels (including r-controlled), soft c and g, silent consonants, compound words, a and an, vowel y, -ies plurals, affixes, syllabication, accents, schwa, possessives, contractions, plural forms, synonyms, antonyms, and homonyms, alphabetical order. This third course (Level C) in our Adventures in Phonics series finishes the formal study of phonics. It reviews sounds, blends, digraphs, and diphthongs. It also covers prefixes and suffixes, plurals, synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, apostrophe usage, syllables, and pronunciation. Drill, repetition, and writing activities are used to help ensure comprehension. The Adventures in Phonics: Phonics Sounds and Teaching Tips cd offers proper pronunciation of vowels and consonants along with tips for teaching beginning readers. It can be used alongside any phonics program, but is designed for use with Adventures in Phonics: Level A. I’m very impressed with the scope of these books. Most other phonics books "stretch out" the introduction of phonograms over several workbooks.

We used this Phonics series with our oldest daughter, and now we are working through it with our son. It is a helpful and effective way to supplement teaching reading and even spelling and handwriting, with fun cartoon drawings and Christian, biblical references scattered throughout the exercises.

An excellent source for a second grade studying phonics. Carries on where Book A left off. Well worth the money.

I have used the Adventures in Phonics for all 6 of my kids, teaching them to read. It is a super easy program to use for all types of learners. I really like the order in which new letters are presented. The exercises and writing practice are great also. Get the charts and letter cards to go with this program. They are all affordable and easy to use. I highly recommend it.

I used this same book, only Level A, for my 6-year-old. It was good phonics practice. Very helpful. We will continue practicing with Level B for the second half of first grade.

How does this differ from explode the code? Researching what to use.
A shopper on Sep 10, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Adventures in Phonics is excellent but also fast paced. My son felt like he accomplished more in Explode the Code because he got through more pages, where in AIP it was only 1-2 pages. Level B also has very small spaces for the child to write. My son always complained that it was too hard (he was 6) and he didn’t have enough room. I enjoyed the more Christian themed subjects in AIP but ETC is a much simpler and straightforward workbook. The child could probably even figure out the instructions themselves after a bit, whereas AIP is much more busy in the page; LOTS of words. I felt like I should have been going over the same page in AIP at least twice but, the work was already done. I enjoyed going through AIP Level A with my son; we could take our time a little more, but at about halfway through level B we moved to Explode the Code. Level B is a lot of the same as Level A, just smaller print and slightly more advanced words covering the same phonics rules. For my next child I will probably go slowly through Level A and use some Explode the Code to supplement. Then I may move completely to ETC after finishing AIP Level A.
I hope this info was helpful.
Do you have to use workbook A before B? My kids already know letter sounds, some blends, digraphs and writing?

BEST ANSWER: No, you could start with Level B if you your students have covered all the concepts in Book A. I would take a look at the Table of Contents for Book A and use it as a checklist to make sure they have covered all the concepts.
How long does it take to go through this book? (Lessons per week + length of lessons)
A shopper on Jun 30, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This book is designed for one year. Lesson pacing is based on student's abilities, but you will spend 20-30 minutes per day on phonics.

Christian Liberty Phonics is an amazing program I chose it originally by recommendation of a friend and I was new to homeschooling My then kindergarten son went through the first two Phonics books By 2nd grade he was reading on a 5th grade level I can repeat the exact same of my 2nd child She too used the CLP Phonics A and B and is an incredible reader I chose to use them again with my last child because I figure why change something that works so wonderfully I will say that there is a lot of repetition I choose to use those practice pages if I feel my child needs strengthening in an area otherwise I just skip and move on One of my greatest fears and challenges for beginning homeschooling was the thought of teaching my children to read Using the CLP Phonics A and B made it simple and thorough and I have them to thank for my children's excellent reading ability

I have to attribute the Adventure in Phonics workbooks and the readers from Christian Liberty press for helping my child learn to read and to progress to being an independent reader!
