Is this a secular course?
A shopper on Nov 14, 2020
BEST ANSWER: It is one of the more secular LifePac courses that I have used. The first unit addresses how the Christian background of the founders influenced them, but other than that it is a fairly secular program.
How many credits will my child earn with this Civis program?
BethAnne on Jul 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The description says it is a one-semester course, which translates to 0.5 credits in a traditional credit system. That is what MO requires for civics and how I am counting it for my son. Hope that helps!
Is this Civics curriculum set meant to be used for a semester or a complete school year?
User on May 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I think it is for a semester, but could easliy supplement with other materials to make a year long study. That is what we are doing.

The best civics curriculum that I have seen
I take my son's civic education very seriously and have looked at a lot of different options. This program is comprehensive and interesting. The workbook format reduces "text fatigue" and there are many opportunities for in-depth analysis. I am using (and would recommend) an additional course in American History. There are brief sections of history throughout, but merely to introduce the unit topics. This program is intended to give an overview of government, politics, and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. These things this program does very well.

Covers civics but the history component is lacking
This program covers civics well but the history it mentions is lacking. It omits the persecutions under Henry VIII, Edward VI, Elizabeth I and James I. The Protestant Reformation is portrayed as peaceful with no mention, for example, that Luther opposed Zwingli and was pleased by Zwingli's death, the Peasants' Uprising in Germany, that Calvinists had Michael Servetus burned at the stake (as well as thousands of "witches"), or the persecution of non-Anglicans in England. Unfortunately, the Reformation wasn't as peaceful as this book makes it seem.
