I read a book called "into the Dust", I think that was what it was called. The book left a deep impact on me and this one has the same premise. Stories like these help children understand how humanity/history has changed over time.

This seems like a great book to show children from many time periods have stuggles that they worked though. We thought this would be a good book for our 7 year old.

We are studying American History. Using readers allows my kids to participate in "teaching" the history.

Dust for Dinner is a powerful book about the Great Depression that captured my interest as much as it did my daughter Its a story that we all need to remember especially in these challenging economic times I found it to be an effective way to convey the struggles of the Depression to young children in a non-threatening way The story is told through the eyes of a brother and sister whose family had very little but still found joy in life through Mamas radio Very touching We could all learn a lesson about dealing with hard times from this book Its also wonderful to have a book for about a first-grade reader to read that is meaty and meaningful well beyond the fat cat sat type of books
