Publisher Description:

Saxon Math's unique approach helps children learn for a lifetime. And Basic Facts help strengthen addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division skills.

Category Description for Saxon Math 1:

Skip counting; ordinal positions; sorting rules and patterns; solving problems; mastering basic addition and most basic subtraction facts; adding 2-digit numbers without regrouping; measuring; comparing volume, mass and area; counting money; telling time to half-hour; identifying polygons; graphing. 130 lessons.

Category Description for Saxon K-3 Program:

The Teacher's Manual contains the actual lesson plans and information vital to the effective presentation of math concepts. The consumable Meeting Books are used during the teacher-student "meeting" in which concepts are introduced, demonstrated and practiced. If teaching more than one student at the same level, you will only need one meeting book. Consumable Student Workbooks are used in grades 1-3 only and contain student materials, flash cards and practice pages. The Math K Home Study Kit contains teacher edition and meeting book. Math 1, 2, and 3 kits contain teacher edition, meeting book, and a set of 2 workbooks. Manipulatives are a vital, integral part of the program; these are not included in the Home Study Kits, but are available through us also.

Category Description for Saxon Math:

Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed.

The most popular homeschooling math program hands down! Highly recommended by both Mary Pride and Cathy Duffy, Saxon Math also wins our award for the "Most Requested Text." Saxon math is a "user-friendly" math program - even for Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus and other usually difficult math topics. Learning is incremental and each new concept is continuously reviewed, so the learning has time to "sink in" instead of being forgotten when the next topic is presented. Higher scores on standardized tests and increased enrollments in upper-level math and science classes have resulted where Saxon has been used in public schools. Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed. Because of the format, children are able to work more independently.

I used another "mastery" math program with my oldest child and we had a lot of battles. I switched to Saxon with him in 2nd grade and it's been wonderful! With my younger children, I won't look back to that other program and now only teach Saxon math.

The Kindergarten level seems to be a little to easy for my granddaughter. So, we are going to go ahead and start the 1st grade level and just take it a little slow.

This is our third child to use Saxon and we just needed the worksheets and flash cards. We are very pleased with Saxon Math.
Andrew A on Jul 28, 2020
We use Saxon math for all of our children. Math may not be their profession in the future, but Saxon is the gold standard in producing a wonderful understanding of math concepts! Don't be intimidated, you usually start with kindergarten or first grade math and work up from there. It's always baby steps!

We are beginning homeschooling through Classical Conversations. They suggested this Math program and I know others who use it. I chose this option without the teacher's guide, because personally I don't think I will use it. I was thankful for the video attached to the viewing of this item.

These books have been a great tool for teaching my children with special needs. The incremental lessons allow them to be comfortable with their work without too much new information at a time.

I found it a good fit for my older son. Straightforward and open and go. With Saxon, my family always goes up a grade level. (Kindergartener uses Saxon 1 etc)
Anna L on Aug 4, 2019
I grew up with Saxon math, and really enjoy the curriculum. I believe it provides a far better algebraic foundation than any of its competing curriculum options. I love that it is 'cut and dry' with simple, easy to understand layouts and no color.

My daughter is 4.5 years old, going into pre-K but knows all of Part A assessment. She didn’t get any right in Part B. It says I should start her on Math 1. Would you recommend Math 1 or Math K? Thank you!!!
A shopper on Jul 20, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I LOVE Saxon Math, but did not like Math K and that seemed to be the consensus among our homeschool group. I tried Math K for a month and hated it! My kids used Math 1 instead and did great. It is a little writing heavy, but they caught on to that pretty well. Your daughter will do well with Math 1 and I think their assessment is spot on. The beauty of using your own curriculum is you can move at your own pace and are able to slow down (or speed up) if needed. Best wishes and God bless as you start your school year.
Does this come with all the master sheets?
A shopper on Aug 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the master sheets are part of the workbooks.
What is the difference between new Saxon elementary grade materials and older Saxon materials for the same grades?
A shopper on Apr 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have used Saxon math for my children and now am using Saxon math to teach my grandchildren and the concept is the same. They are doing math the way I remember it possibly more updated verbiage in story problems. I think it is the best out there. My kids all did well in math and liked it
How many pages does this work book have?
Sharon N on Sep 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: There are 130 lessons in the workbooks. Each lesson usually has 2 pages, one math timed test page and one double sided lesson page. That makes it around 260 pages.

Fantastic Resource for my Special Needs son
My son is a Special Education student and math is particularly hard for him. I really like Saxon Math for him because ideas are taught and then continuously reinforced. Also, the focus on teaching math visually but without the distractions of brightly colored illustrations that so many kids workbooks have. The visuals in Saxon are part of the math problems. As part of the lesson the student might be asked to color something but that adds to the lesson but isn’t already there as a meaningless distraction.

Good work book pages. I didn’t realize you didn’t get the meeting book with this set, kind of unfortunate to have to purchase that separately.
