Product Description:

This novel not only gives us a great historical look at Galen's life, but gives a great view of Roman times as well. Readers see a child in school, a rich man with slaves, soldiers at war, untreatable plagues, Mediterranean geography, and more. A host of illustrations augment the story. Same author and format as Archimedes and the Door of Science.

Category Description for Beautiful Feet History & Geography:

Beautiful Feet curriculum takes a multi-level, living book approach to teaching history, geography and world cultures, using easy to use Guides for the teacher and engaging, well-written literature for the student. The Guides provide book lists, chapter readings, discussion and research questions, background information, website links, answer keys, and more. See our website for lists of literature resources to accompany each guide. Most guides provide content for one year of study, with the exception of Geography through Literature and Western Expansion. The latter two are recommended to be completed together for one year of study. Numbers of lessons vary, and are scheduled 1 to 4 days per week. Recommended Timelines are available individually or in a set of two. Timelines are cardstock and include the figures referenced in the study. Students will need to color, cut and assemble the timeline and figures. History and geography come alive with these well done literature guides. See our website for required books for each guide. Some guides and resources contain Christian content while others do not; contact us for additional information.

I read this to my child/student the last time I taught through Rome to the Reformation, and it was one the highlights of our year. I must have leant it out because I am now ordering my second copy.

Enjoyable living Science book
This is a good living book for about 5th grade independent reading. My daughter and I have been reading it together, one chapter per day. Using the life of Galen, a physician in the Roman Empire ad, we learned about the history of Medicine and what Galen achieved in his lifetime, sometimes comparing it to what we know now.
