If you find your student benefits from a visual and/or audio component when learning Saxon math, DIVE (Digital Interactive Video Education) might be a good fit. This digital download course contains helpful instruction that teaches the new concept in every lesson for Saxon Math 5/4 through Calculus. Taught by a Saxon expert, Dr. David Shormann, it uses a “whiteboard” display on the computer screen. You don’t actually see him, but numbers appear on the screen as he walks the student through the lesson. Offering a different outlook on the lesson than what is written in the textbook, he reviews concepts taught in previous lessons first that might be used to build on the present lesson being taught. By doing this he is connecting new concepts to previous concepts. Example problems are different than the textbook example problems, giving the student more practice with different material. The video course is not meant to replace the textbook instruction but rather enhance it.

In the original DIVE lessons, Dr. Shormann brings in helpful tidbits of biblical encouragement interspersed throughout the lectures. The Compass version, however, does not include any biblical references (otherwise, all other content is the same). Video lessons average 10-15 minutes and email support is available. Previously available in CD-ROM format, this course is available now only as a digital download.
