Student & Teacher Books (Jolly Phonics)

Jolly Phonics materials target different ages but the actual instructional content is ordered the same for each group utilizing the seven letter sound groupings. The spiral nature of the components provides interesting options. You can begin at any of the age levels. Instruction builds within a level, but the next level also reviews all concepts and expands so you won’t miss any content.

The core instruction for Kindergarten/First Grade is found in the Teacher & Student Books plus the reading practice from the Decodable Readers. The three Student Books each feature all 42 letter sounds and are used for reinforcement and further skill development. They cover letter formation, listening for letter sounds in words, blending activities, and tricky words. The books build on each other; each introducing more tricky words as well as sound spellings and spelling patterns and even basic sentence structure. They are designed to be used sequentially.

The Grammar Handbooks provide general teaching ideas for grammar and spelling as well as specific lesson sheets for 36 weekly spelling and grammar lessons. Lessons instruct through the reproducible worksheets. Extra reproducible masters include spelling and writing masters, flash cards, spelling and tricky word sheets, and extension activity sheets. Includes answers written on the teacher pages under the “Activity Page” section in paragraph form.

Teacher Books provide general grammar and spelling teaching ideas as well as daily lessons that interact with the Student Book. Reduced copies of exact student pages are shown (without answers). Student answers are written under the “Activity Page” section in paragraph form. Spelling lessons include review, instruction, spelling list work, activities, and dictation. Grammar lessons include review, instruction, activity pages and extension activities. Student Books provide weekly spelling and grammar worksheets featuring a variety of activities, all with colorful, engaging graphics. For instance, one page on root words, prefixes, and suffixes shows a number of fish. Unbelievably, each fish somehow illustrates, by its expression, the word with the suffix it is illustrating: hopeful, comfortable, cheerful, even recycle. Both Teacher and Student Books are richly colorful. Jolly Grammar Sets include a Teacher and Student book for each level. ~ Janice
