Abeka Spelling and Poetry (1-3)

Colorful student books are part of the Abeka English program and each book is easy to teach. Even in grade 1, spelling words are shown in print and cursive, with a focus on word families and letter patterns. You will also find a good amount of reading lesson reinforcement in grade 1, as students have to discriminate between correct and incorrect usage of a word. The teacher guide includes tests, reduced student pages with answers filled in and loads of guidance for the teacher. It is a very uncomplicated way for a parent to teach spelling. Student books contain loads of writing practice to help youngsters become familiar with the spelling words too. Homework assignments are lists of words to copy and practice in order to improve spelling. Grade 1 does not have a teacher guide, but is very intuitive for the parent to use. Grade 1 has 30 lists, 10-15 words each. Grade 2 has 33 lists, 15-17 words each. Grade 3 has 34 lists, 17-20 words each. Poetry instruction is in the teacher guide for grades 2 & 3. Students learn to recite the poems and discuss their content. Each level has 7-8 poems.
