Center for Learning Composition
This Center for Learning program progressively guides and equips students in expressing ideas. Elements such as graphic organizers, focused practice, and models from professional writers make this a pragmatic writing program. The 68 lessons in the Basic level (grades 7-9) divide into sections: warm-up, paragraph, and essay writing. Lessons focus on topic and closing sentences, sentence combining, selecting supportive details, and analyzing compositions. The 48 lessons in the Advanced course (9-12) begin by reviewing the Basic’s concepts. Each of the remaining sections focuses on a specific skill: critical thinking and effective writing; purposed-based paragraph development, and finally, multi-paragraph compositions. The required teacher guide includes lesson objectives, notes, and suggested responses when possible, but writing assignment grading is up to you (portfolio grading recommended). This guide includes reproducible worksheets for student use. If preferred, consumable, spiral student workbooks provide just the student materials. Common Core Correlations available. Writing samples are typical secular high school level content, but you may want to preview for your family. ~ Ruth
