Hands-On Heritage Cultural Activity Books

Experience these cultures, past and present, through these learn-and-do activities. Explore the land, people, how they live, and their art and culture. A literature list is supplied if you want to incorporate selections into the unit, which is almost totally hands-on (hence the name). Geography, animals, housing, clothing, cooking, crafts, weapons, music, games, jewelry, art, languages, and more are briefly described, followed by clear instructions for completing corresponding projects. Materials used are basic, around the house items, with few exceptions. My review copy is Africa. Just a sampling of the 29 activities include constructing native housing, batik and tie-dying, making Banana Bake (yum!), creating a tribal shield, making a Zulu ceremonial dance skirt, making and playing a Mankala game, making Grisgris, and learning a little Swahili. For those that learn best by doing!
