Heart of Anger

Do you have a child that exhibits outbursts of anger, disrespect, strife or discouragement? Maybe you just want to "head-off" these issues before they arise. This book goes beyond external manifestations of anger and shows how to deal with the internal source of anger in the heart in a biblical way. Using a composite of a family he counseled as an example, Lou Priolo provides a confident, Bible-centered approach to resolving these anger problems. The book describes a child-centered home vs. a God-centered home and helps us diagnose which we have. Lou also presents 25 ways parents provoke children to anger. However, this is not a "blame parents" book. It simply helps parents identify the part they play in the problem and the part they can play in the solution. Not surprisingly, the book presents communication as a key tool, not only with words but with tone of voice and non-verbal cues. The author helps us explore the attitudes of the heart of both the child and the parent. He also gives reasons why parents can only discipline successfully to the extent that they have discipline in their own lives. The book discusses the desires and motives that contribute to a heart of anger and to manipulation. I found the book easy to read and understand with many clear examples and diagnostic questions. The book includes several helpful appendices and an anger journal.

An insightful workbook is also available. For each chapter of the book, the workbook has a section of study questions and application questions. The study questions are designed to help you get the most out of reading the book by questioning you about the content of the chapters. The application questions will help you relate what you have read to your life and the lives of your children. Overall, the workbook will help you think through these important issues and your family environment. Perfect for individual study, as well as in a small group. 80 pgs, pb. - Jerry/Elise
