Allegra, though only twelve, has become an amazing violinist thanks to her persistent violin instructor, Mr. Kaplan, and her parents who are professional musicians. After receiving news that her tape recording of one of Mozart's concertos had been accepted for a competition, she must now make her final decision whether to accept her position in the contest or not. The winner of the contest will play their chosen concerto with a symphony at a concert. If Allegra decides to compete, she must practice this piece to perfection in the three months to come before the audition. Now that school and softball are over for the summer, she has the choice to dedicate her time to practicing. Not only is she nervous about playing in front of so many people, but she is also slightly intimidated by the fact that she would be the youngest competitor by far. Mr. Kaplan encourages her to make the decision on her own, and delightfully helps her become more in tune with her violin and her practiced pieces, whether she decides to compete or not. 249 pgs, pb. ~ Brianna

Description
Publisher's Description of Mozart Season
When Allegra was a little girl, she thought she would pick up her violin and it would sing for her—that the music was hidden inside her instrument.
Now that Allegra is twelve, she believes the music is in her fingers, and the summer after seventh grade she has to teach them well. She's the youngest contestant in the Ernest Bloch Young Musicians' Competition.
She knows she will learn the notes to the concerto, but what she doesn't realize is she'll also learn—how to close the gap between herself and Mozart to find the real music inside her heart.
