Description

McOmber is a surprisingly comprehensive phonics-based reading program, deceptively labeled “readers.” The easy-to-read stories provide gradual and systematic phonics coupled with writing activities that provide reinforcement. The Package includes 52 colorful, sequential, and progressive Readers, 52 black and white Writing Activity Booklets (10 sets) plus a no-nonsense Teaching Guide. The phonics progression is straight-forward: short vowels, consonants, word families, blends, long vowels including magic e, and r-controlled vowels.

Readers provide character-based stories, lesson plans, new words, sound patterns, discussion questions, and review. Writing Activities Booklets provide pre-reading and post-reading writing practice of words and sentences as well as comprehension activities (with answers). The Teaching Guide explains and illustrates the features of the Readers and Writing Activities Booklets as well as providing teacher helps. The McOmber reading program will take your just-getting-started reader from CVC words up to chapter books.

This program includes:

A total of 52 McOmber Readers, 52 Writing Activity Booklets divided into 10 Sets, and a Teaching Guide.
Each Set includes 5 Readers and 5 Writing Activity Booklets except for Set 10. Set 10 includes 6 Readers and 6 Writing Activity Booklets plus a bonus book.
Sets 1-5 introduces the short vowels.
Set 6 introduces the long vowels with an e at the end of the word changing the short vowel sound to a long vowel sound.
Sets 7-10 introduces and reinforces intermediate skills of vowel patterns such as: ee, ea, ay, ai, igh, ew, oa, ow, ou, au, aw, oi, oy, oo as well as common prefixes, suffixes and sight words.
Bonus Book "Chatsworth" after Set 10 reinforces high frequency words for further reading enhancement.
