These include a Getting Started section, Lesson-by-Lesson Instructions, a Weekly Activity Guide, and a Frequently Asked Questions section that addresses random issues that may arise.
An Answer Key for each level is included in the back of the Instructor's Handbook. These answer keys are full-color and show the highlighting and underlining (in appropriate colors) that the student is being asked to do (which also simplifies the grading process). Publisher's Description of Spelling You See Level D: Americana Instructor's Handbook (old edition)
The Americana Instructor's Handbook contains an introduction to the philosophy behind Spelling You See and the five development stages of spelling. The Handbook also contains a "Getting Started" guide with an overview of the organization of the 36 lessons and information about the important skills and concepts that will be learned in this level as well as information about the three core activities. At the back of the Handbook there is more information about guided reading, chunking, copywork, dictation, answers to frequently asked questions, and a collection of helpful resources including passages for dictation.
In Americana, students will read nonfiction stories about American history and culture while learning to spell new words in an interesting context. Americana utilizes the three core activities of Spelling You See: chunking, providing hands-on experience with English's many irregular letter patterns; copywork, requiring the brain to pay attention to details in print; and dictation, giving an opportunity for student to demonstrate decoding and encoding in a meaningful context.
For the proficient reader with gradually improving spelling skills. This level features nonfiction stories about American history and culture. Just like the student's ability, the reading level gradually increases. Resources include the Passages, an Answer Key, a Glossary, a Bibliography, and an Index of Topics. Please note that this program is no longer sold as a Universal Set. Please see package item #SYSDRV for the equivalent set. This level has been revised and the new edition is not compatible with the old. Online placement test available at https://spellingyousee.com/levels/#placement
