Description

Do you need an easy workbook to supplement phonemic skills with your young reader? The K Reader’s Notebook from the HMH Journeys Reading program works on these skills. In Volume 1 students are introduced to each letter in alphabetical order, provided dotted mid-line writing space to work on handwriting, and a letter scramble to work on identifying both capital and lower-case letters. Volume 2 covers even more read aloud comprehension and critical thinking skills, covers tricky sounds like words with “x” or “j”, grammar concepts, and developing ideas. Because this level does not have the Close Reader or the Big Book available, you will have to accommodate and be flexible when you come across a comprehension story question. Many, if not all, of the story-related questions can be used with any read aloud book you may already be reading with your student. These are consumable workbooks that are not reproducible with perforated pages for easy removal. There is no difference between the Common Core and the standard workbook. Paperback. ~Rebecca

Category Description for HMH Journeys Reading Grade K

A fun workbook approach that provides practice work on early phonics skills. This is not a phonics program but will further develop phonemic awareness skills in young readers. The Reader’s Notebooks will work on handwriting and identifying skills. Brief directions are provided at the bottom of each page. There will be mention of specific stories to further develop character and comprehension awareness. The specific reader is not available for this level BUT any read aloud story you are using with your student can easily be substituted and accommodated for these comprehension exercises. The Teacher’s Edition will work with either edition, as there is no difference between the Common Core and standard notebook, and provides all the answers needed for checking the students’ work. ~Rebecca
