Description

The Getting Writing Right Set consists of a practical writer's handbook, accompanying learning guides, exams, and exam keys.

The Getting Writing Right book is a writer's handbook that covers punctuation and provides grammar references. Part 1 of the book covers punctuation, part 2 covers grammar, and the book ends with the grammar at a glance section and topical index. Seven individual learning guides, as well as the exams and exam keys provide the students with a self-guided lesson plan. While not very lengthy, each learning guide serves the purpose well with How tos, reading assignments from the book, drill assignments, teacher check points, practical application writing assignments and a place for the student and supervisor/teacher to sign off when the student completes each guide. There is an exam after each learning guide. Each learning guide gives an estimated time the material should take. I added it up to a total of 38 hours.

Often in high school language arts, the focus switches from being heavier in grammar and punctuation instruction to composition and literature. This would provide a punctuation/grammar check-up and review as part of a high school English course. ~Judy

Publisher's Description of Getting Writing Right: High Schooler's Handbook on Punctuation and Grammar Set

Want to become a first-class authority on grammar? Probably not.

How about a specialist in punctuation rules? Not likely.

What most of us want is to be able to write well, to communicate effectively in writing.

What we need is a handy reference that will help us know whether we need a comma here or a semi-colon there.

Punctuation is simply the use of symbols to control the flow of writing and ensure it's clear.

Grammar is simply how we put words together so our writing makes sense.

Getting Writing Right was created as a simple, go-to reference on these subjects—to help you become a better writer by providing a quick reference for use when writing.

Read it. Use it. And get your writing right!

Includes seven separate learning guides that help students progress through the book providing opportunities for lots of practice as they hone their skills.

Straightforward and easy to use, the Complete Writing Series from Heron Book is a great option to strengthen weak areas, or to use sequentially to cover the range of skills necessary from fourth grade through high school. The focus is mastery of vital communication skills, so you won’t find many distractions or rabbit trails here. The lessons are written to the student in a simple, focused way that many will appreciate. In elementary courses, colorful and fun illustrations are used to engage students in learning.

All levels provide ample white space with the text, which is less overwhelming and more visually appealing for most learners. Most sets include the Learning Guide(s) which include the self-paced lessons, a Workbook, Teacher Resources, Exams and answers to the exams, and certificate of completion. Reading assignments and activities are found in the text and the workbook holds assignments and teacher checkpoints. An answer packet for workbook questions, an exam and an exam key are also included Student materials are consumable. Only available in Sets.
