Description

It’s Broccoli vs. Bacon in the first round. Broccoli rolls the dice for beans (this game’s currency) so it can purchase a spoon for longer reach in combat. Next, Bacon buys a cracker for 3 beans to use as a shield to protect against all vegetable enemy attacks. In Food Fighters, beans are the currency, and spoons, crackers, pans, a bonus die, and power cards are tools for offense and defense when the meats fight with the vegetables. When one prevails in this 2-person head-to-head combat by capturing three of any one type of enemy card, they win the food fight and the game!

To begin, set up the game by choosing who plays as the vegetable team (broccoli, cabbage, and onions) and the meat team (bacon, chicken leg, and steak). Both players create a random 3x3 grid with their nine cards. These nine cards consist of three of each type of food, whether vegetables or meat, and the grid is set up directly opposite their opponent’s.

Each turn, players choose to either roll the dice to collect beans, swap positions of two of their cards, or attack one of their adversary’s food cards. If the attack is successful, they collect that card from their opponent. After their chosen action, players may turn in beans to buy items from the pantry, and their opponent can fill in any gap in their grid resulting from a successful attack. Once a player knocks out three matching enemy food cards, they win the game!

If you like 20-minute two-player combat games with a sense of humor, head to the kitchen for the cabbage and “steak” your claim on this meat and vegetable melee. — Marsha
