Junior Learning Literacy applies the Science of Reading,
where all words are decodable! The term “heart words” is used to
describe words in English that are tricky to learn. One nice thing about this program
is that the individual parts can be used independently as needed. You can use
just the readers, or in this case, just the cards! Features include:
Sound “buttons” for counting the
sounds in a word
Fill-in phoneme frames for use
with a dry-erase marker
Consonant sounds shown in blue,
while vowel sounds shown in pink/red
93 cards with the same word on
both sides
Numbers on cards to indicate
difficulty level

Publisher's Description of Heart Words Cards: Common Exception (Rainbow Phonics)
Learn
all your Heart Words off by heart. Heart Words by Rainbow Phonics is a
set of 93 Heart Word cards which provide visual clues as to how to
learn heart words (tricky or common exception words). Each Heart Word
card is double-sided. On the front-side is the Heart Word along with
sound buttons and a visual clue (love heart) color-coded in pink to show
the tricky part of the word. On the reserve is a phoneme frame, with
the decodable part of the word missing so the student can use the write
and wipe surface to add the decodable letter (or grapheme). The other
letters that are tricky are presented along with phoneme speech
bubbles. Together these visual clues help children sound the Heart Word
out and see the exceptions to the decoding rules. The outside borders
are color-coded in accordance with the phases of Rainbow Phonics. Cards
also integrate with the lessons in the Teacher Planners at the
different grade levels.
Junior Learning Literacy provides a systematic pattern of phonics/reading instruction. Rainbow Phonics, Beanstalk Decodable Readers, and various workbooks and games support the following phases of literacy instruction.
The Letter and Sounds Teaching Kit will get you started. Packed with activity cards and workbooks it's ready to be used with the Rainbow Phonics Magnetic Letters. The Downloadable Teacher Manual (use QR code) can either be used with the Teaching Kit/Letters and or with only the Letters for a comprehensive approach in teaching phonics/reading. The manual, which roughly covers skills typically taught in PK through 2nd grade, is well-organized and easy to follow although it is oriented toward a classroom situation.
