My First Books were written to fill a need in teaching young beginners very, very simple materials—ones that start slowly and progress step by tiny step. Each little step helps draw a child, slowly and comfortably, into the exciting world of reading.
Through My First Books, a child learns the connection between written words and their meanings. They learn to read very simple but meaningful text, starting with single words that gradually build into short phrases, sentences, and simple stories. Simultaneously, they are introduced to letter sounds.
A child completing the set of fully illustrated books and workbooks will have a reading vocabulary of roughly 60 words along with an understanding of plurals and possessives, all for use in reading simple sentences and stories. They will know the joy of reading and be ready for more.
They will, in short, be off to a great start in reading!
