This complete Teacher’s Manual contains embedded images of student pages, along with suggested answers, video board notes, teaching tips, and access to students’ sample essays that are read aloud on the video.
This 12-week course provides students the key skills in writing and presenting speeches from the ancient Greeks’ Five Canons of Rhetoric (invention; arrangement; elocution; memory; and delivery). The course design balances well between students creating and evaluating their own speeches and evaluating fellow students’ speeches in areas of poise, locution, contact, and content. While familiarity with the IEW writing method is helpful, students will start their speech writing with beginning skills: Key Word Outlines (KWO). Then, students will present varied selections of poetry, speeches, and more (including some references to ancient gods). After practicing with these, students will create their own content while practicing and learning to evaluate the 5 speech styles, including narrative, expository, and persuasive speeches, varying from 5-10 minutes in length. The course ends with a presentation of a 5-minute impromptu speech.
The Introduction to Public Speaking complete set includes all materials for 1 student and teacher: the Teacher’s Manual, Student Packet, videos of instructor Andrew Pudewa (choose either DVD or forever streaming), Portable Walls for Public Speaking, and a Student Binder with 4 tabs. The Student Book includes class notes, techniques, content of speeches to deliver, task checklists, helpful memory techniques, and more. Each student will build a personal binder of course materials. The Portable Walls provide quick access to key course points in creating, presenting, and evaluating speeches. The Teacher Manual provides copies of the student material with additional teacher information, including video summaries, definitions, implementation tips, and weekly overviews (with goals and total time allotment). Purchasing either the student or teacher book allows access to PDF downloads (for immediate family only) that include speech templates, critique pages, poetry MP3s to memorize, and examples of expository, persuasive, and impromptu speeches. Instructions are included on the "blue page." Components can be purchased individually or as a package with either Forever Streaming or DVD options. ©2023 ~ Ruth
