Note that these diagrams are incredibly detailed and some of the lines are a little difficult to follow, but lack of information will not be an issue! Topics covered include health, cooking and eating, leisure, supplies, working at sea, battle stations, sleeping, navigation, discipline, and more. Note that this book is not afraid of more gruesome or unappealing details about sea life. Some illustrations get a little gory: a small one on the “Health” page shows a basket of limbs near a caption about a surgeon’s tools and how often sailors had to have limbs amputated in battle, along with a list of materials and tools used for amputation.
