Description

Piece together your own M4A3 Sherman & T34 Calliope with this 1,230-piece COBI building block set! Part of COBI’s World War II Historical Collection, this set contains the blocks needed to construct the American Sherman medium tank equipped with the T34 Calliope rocket launcher.

The Sherman was the primary tank that the Americans used throughout the war, and the Calliope was a rocket launcher structure that was mounted on top of the Sherman. The entire setup was temporary and had to be disassembled after use, but when attached to the barrel of the Sherman’s 75mm gun, the Calliope was capable of firing 60 different 114.3mm rockets. Around 200 Calliope systems were manufactured during the war and were used by American tank divisions in France.

This 1:28 scale model features a rotating turret, working tracks, and hatches that open to reveal the tank’s inner components. Tank commander minifigures, as well as a French gendarme, also come with the set. The Executive Edition of the Sherman tank with the T34 Calliope multi-rocket launcher mounted on it is a set that COBI fans have been waiting on for years! The set also includes a unique figure of a French gendarme, which will surely steal the hearts of fans who appreciate military pop culture and TV history.

The M4 Sherman was the main American medium tank from the Second World War. Produced in the years 1942-1945, it became the most recognizable American tank. The T34 Calliope was a 60-tube launcher that fired 114.3 mm (4.6 inch) M8 rockets. The entire structure of the launcher was made of plywood. It was a one-off construction and was removed after all the rockets had been fired. The advantage of the launcher was the large number of missiles fired, with better performance than the German equivalent Nebelwerfer. The disadvantages included not the greatest accuracy of the rockets and the way they were mounted on the tank, which posed a significant threat to the crew in the event of urgent evacuation. Calliope was developed in 1943 and about 200 were produced. It was used in the American 2nd Armored Division in France.

The block-based Sherman was produced in a large scale 1:28, which allows more details to be reproduced! The tank has a movable cannon, a rotating turret, an opening hatch and working tracks. The tower is equipped with the T34 Calliope multi-tube rocket launcher consisting of 60 tubes. Special, new elements have been designed to build it! All graphic details are high-quality prints that do not wear off even during intense play. The advantage is the design that uniquely reflects the original shapes of its historical inspiration. There are additional accessories on the tank that recreate the vehicle's and can be used by minifigures representing the tank's crew. Particularly noteworthy are the perfectly reproduced figures of the tank commander and the characteristic French gendarme. They’re heroes worthy of cult cinema and TV productions. The whole set is complemented by a black collector's plate with the name of the set printed on it.
