If you enjoy Machi Koro, you are in for a treat with its sequel, Machi Koro 2! Quick to set up, learn, and clean up, this stand-alone version of the game adds new and entertaining twists to the original gameplay. Just like the first game, players take turns, which consist of rolling dice to earn coins which can be used to buy new cards. Each card has its own action, which are activated once a certain number is rolled. Also, differently colored cards affect different players.
However, Machi Koro 2 has some new features that enhance normal game play. First of all, set-up is slightly different. For example, you start the game with 5 coins and 3 buys, allowing you to choose which cards you start with. This allows the game to move along faster. You may choose right from the start whether you’d like to roll one or two dice, bringing more of the cards into play. Also, each landmark has a new and unique power – some bring new rules into the game and others do something when you build the card. First person to build 3 landmarks wins the game! One downside to this game is that sometimes a certain card becomes too powerful and dictates the winner right from the start.
This 45-minute game is great for 2-5 players, but works best with 3-4 players. The coins are a durable plastic, and while the cards are not extremely high quality, they work very well for the game play. The art is very peppy and bright, creating a pleasant gaming atmosphere.
