Description

The print version of the Purposeful Design Language Arts 1st Grade Teacher Edition provides teacher background information including a complete scope and sequence of the course, notes for preparation, and daily lessons. Some teacher resources such as “blackline masters" (BLMs – notes, handouts, spelling tests, reviews of high-frequency words, phonics, and grammar), and “digital masters" (DMs – display items), are available as pdf downloads from the publisher's website (access instructions included). The TE, however, does include a chapter-by-chapter list of suggested read-alouds, plus two-page Reading Guides (RGs) for each of these books. Daily lesson plans are a wraparound format with reduced copies of student pages (and answers), main body of instructional material, and sidebars. Lessons include Reading (phonics, high frequency words, reading groups), Literature (oral vocabulary, interactive read-alouds), and Language & Writing (grammar, writing workshops). Lessons on Day 4 of each week include a specific Worldview application. Spelling lessons are provided as sidebars. Other sidebar content includes: Preparation, Assessment, Recovery, Enrichment, Homework, Extensions, and Safety notes. Assessments include diagnostic tests, phonics skills checks (5-7 times per year), and review of high-frequency words.
