Description

I don't know very many children who don't have an interest in rocks. We started collecting them at our house when our daughter was young. This handy Rock Log Kids is a great place to record your findings. This spiral-bound book also includes helpful identification information under headings such as: What's a Rock, the rock cycle, What's a Mineral, everyday rocks and minerals, state rocks (Illinois' mineral is fluorite), famous rocks, common words associated with rocks, how to make your own rock display box, and rock logging tips. The rest of the Rock Log (pages 12 through 80) are formatted for recording. Two pages are for recording dates and rocks/minerals you find. The next 60 pages are logging pages (2 pages per specimen) on which to record date/time, city/state, location, shape, size, look/feel, description details, and what you did with the rock. These pages also prompt students to record interesting things they notice, and invite them to include a sketch or photo of their rock. There are five pages for rock photos or art and two pages with a rock to color. Children will love keeping track of their rock-hounding efforts. 80 pgs, p/b. ~ Donna
