Christian Kids Explore Earth & Space by Stephanie L Redmond is a dichotomy of a course! I purchased this course fully intending to be completely pleased with it because I trust Rainbow Resources content descriptions I enjoyed teaching from this text for a number of reasons including: little to no teacher prep time; enjoyable to work through; God-honoring; and written in a conversational tone that is easy to read aloud and appeals to the younger audience Altogether I found this course to be a good core text for my second-grader that was easily supplemented in a few areas I will be using it again with my younger kids when they hit second grade And although my second-grader and I completed the entire course we definitely amended and expanded it to be more in-depth One example of this was finding all nine planets covered in one short chapter! I thought this was neglecting an opportunity to excite kids about outer space so we expanded on that section with outside materials There is no chapter at all about biomes which I found startling as there is so much to intrigue children about the variety of habitats and temperature zones on this planet we call home Again we supplemented the study of Earth with outside materials In a few of the chapters it seemed as though the bulk of the reading is about the authors own opinions although this contributes to the talking to a young child tone One of the main things I noticed about this book was the lack of consistency in material from chapter to chapter It is a curious mix of technical definitions and conversational banter It's always great to find a science course that gives glory to God for his creation The first lesson was about Creation but neglected the on the first day on the second day so we supplemented that with some reading from Genesis In Lesson three she goes over the theory of Pangea and the worldwide flood how some scientists and theologians have conflicting ideas She presents it flawlessly and intelligently Although the coloring sheets are beautiful they have a lot of black space that cant be colored In addition there is one sheet for the entire unit not individual sheets to work on while mom reads each chapter The benefits in this book for the upper elementary students include lots of definitions in the margins and timelines listing scientists and scientific discoveries One thing that would have been helpful was a year-long list of copies to be made in case you dont have a copier at home to do it chapter by chapter We took the book to our local copy center and had them cut off the binding Then we separated the reproducibles and had the text with all the glossaries appendices and supplemental materials spiral-bound I think this book was a good value especially if you supplement with library materials instead of buying them

While searching for a science curriculum which would teach scientific concepts and integrate the Christian faith homeschooling mother Stephanie Redmond was encouraged by her friends to write what would become Christian Kids Explore Biology Due to the positive response of Christian Kids Explore Biology Stephanie has written a second volume Christian Kids Explore Earth and Space Christian Kids Explore Earth and Space contains 24 lessons and six unit reviews which cover the topic of earth and space science The curriculum is comprised of the following components:A Note from the AuthorHow to Use This BookUnit OneGetting Started: Earths Creation; Facts About Earth and Its Structure; Wrap UpUnit TwoThe Lithosphere: Plate Tectonics; Caves; Volcanoes; Earthquakes; Rock Types on Earth; Wrap UpUnit ThreeThe Hydrosphere: Introduction; Oceans; Groundwater; Glaciers and Icebergs; Wrap UpUnit FourThe Atmosphere: Introduction; Atmospheric Pressure; Humidity; Air Composition; Wrap UpUnit FiveEarths Weather: Introduction to Weather & Seasons; Cloud Formation; Precipitation; Thunderstorms & Tornadoes; Hurricanes; Wrap UpUnit SixBeyond Earth: Makeup of the Universe; The Sun; Earths Moon; The Eight Other Planets; Wrap Up The curriculum also includes a Glossary Index and Appendices: A Note from the Author How to Use This Book Glossary and Appendices: Reproducible Maps Forms and Illustrations Memorization Lists Scripture Memory Coloring Pages Recipes and Supplemental Activities How to Make a Folder book Book and Resource List and Answer Key Each lesson unit introduces the topic with a unit timeline vocabulary words and materials needed for the unit The lesson itself is made up of two building blocks: Teaching Time and Hands on Time I would highly recommend purchasing the resource cd download which contains the reproducible pages in the back of the text Overall we have been pleased with this curriculum as it lends itself to the Classical Education and Charlotte Mason philosophies Scientific concepts are presented in an engaging and easy to understand manner This allows the student to build upon their interest through research and scientific experimentation In the fall of 2014 our child is looking forward to utilizing the next book in this series Christian Kids Explore Chemistry

What is on the "companion CD" for the "Chrisitan Kids Explore Earth and Space" book?
A shopper on Jul 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: My CD doesn't seem to be working properly, but it looks like it is supposed to provide additional teacher information and let you print the reproducible worksheets directly from PDF instead of copying from the book
