Product Description
It's an unusual format, but wow, this little study packs a punch! The Wise Woman (a.k.a. The Lost Princess, A Double Story, and Princess Rosamond) is a short story (more like a fairy tale) written by George McDonald, a Scottish writer who was known by and an inspiration to J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Readers of all ages and both genders will enjoy this story full of adventure, enchanted rooms, and life-changing experiences, provided in its entirety, chapter by chapter. Its main character, Princess Rosamond, is a spoiled, badly-behaved princess whose life needs to be changed. Each chapter of the story is interspersed with thought-provoking "journal" questions (a.k.a. literature study). Plenty of space is provided for meaningful short essay answers. An ongoing vocabulary study is included at the end of the story. Perhaps best described as a character study, you will ponder and analyze both the happenings of Rosamond's life as well as her responses to them. Few will fail to see some parallels to their own lives. Even though there is an intense spiritual element to both the story and the journal, interestingly, there is no direct scriptural or Christian content. 160 pgs, spiral-bound. ~ Janice

Beowulf is not the easiest thing to read or teach. This guide will help you as the parent or teacher to plan lessons, assign homework and assess student learning. Even the language is broken down for you. Maps are helpful and interesting to compare with modern maps of northern Europe. Written from a Christian perspective, it contains comprehension questions and activities, plus a closing project. Spiral bound notebook is easy to handle as it will lie flat. Student work pages may be reproduced for your classroom use only. 59 pgs, pb. ~ Sara

Do you need a good book to read? A book that has you turning pages and waiting to see what happens next? What about a book that asks you questions that helps you think critically about what is happening? And one that teaches your kids good morals?? Well this is it!!!I started reading this book not really knowing what to expect I wanted to read it before reading it to my kids I now know that this book has helped me as a mom realizing the different things I could be doing (some you don't think of) and I know it will help my kids realize morals and behaviors that they have The questions at the end of each chapter are so good and really make anyone think!! I was going to use this in the fall for homeschool but this is a good cuddle on the couch book for anytime!!- Was this review helpful? Yes (0) No (0)

I was so excited to see this in your catalog! I was recently introduced to this product and have just started working with my 7th 9th and 11th graders with itI had to read the story beginning to end before I could even begin teaching it just because I had to know how it turned outBut for the kids they are stuck with a chapter at a time followed by fabulous questions My 7th and 9th graders discuss most of the questions with me and I require them to write out answers to 1-2 of them (7th grader) or 3-4 of them (9th grader)My 11th grader is required to write up answers to all of the questions for each chapterThere are 14 chapters in total and we are working through a chapter per week I read the chapter aloud at the beginning of the week and they work on the writing throughout the weekSome questions are fairly factual "Record three details from MacDonald's description of the forest"Most are asking "why" though such as "Why do you think Rosamond first picks a flower?" or "Why do you think this transformation occurs?"Loving this study here! It requires virtually no teacher prep on my part which I particularly enjoy My children are enjoying the story and doing roughly four questions per day is a pace that allows them to think critically and keeps them from being overwhelmed- Was this review helpful?
