I bought all three of the Beginning Geography books and they worked great for what I wanted to accomplish with my six-year-old daughter We worked through each one so she could be introduced to maps direction continents land forms etc and then moved on to the Trip Around the World book I liked the colored maps that came with each of these books and the simple worksheets and activities

I am halfway through the first book in the series How to Use a Map I do plan to use the other two in the series Some of the pages are the really obvious: "Color the land green and the water blue This is what a map looks like" There is a good bit of cut and paste as it is with the next books in the seriesSo it starts off really simple but it gets better North south east and west are covered along with how to use a compass There is a fun page titled "Around the Neighborhood "where they travel to the library park car wash etc with their pencil The Find the Buried Treasure page is also fun Using directions that you give them they can find the Buried Treasure It includes a map with the book One side is a normal full color world map with the continents labeled The other side is a Map of Fairy Tale Land very fun and imaginative! There are cards at the back of the book with questions I am using this with my 4 year old and 6 year old They both look forward to it and since it is reproducible I make copies I have found it easy to use - no teacher prep needed except for the copying I do not find it necessary that they need to know to read I am using this series to prepare them for any map studies in the future Their older sister already does history I needed a fast way to get them to understand geography concepts That way they can all do history together This will do the job nicely
