Our family goal is that every child should have enough basic sewing skills to use the sewing machine to make pillowcases sew on badges fix a ripped seam and fix a button After teaching my oldest daughter to sew without a program and not doing a good job of it I figured there had to be a better way This is it The projects are arranged so that you build skills with each project that will help you complete the next The projects are practical and great for giving as giftsThis book is easy to use Pictures show exactly what each step should look like The text is simple and informative This approach has been successful in teaching my 9yo and inspiring my 12yo to give sewing another try My 6 yo is fascinated as well but needs to wait until he can reach the pedal There is some teacher preparation needed to assemble the materials Two lessons require photocopies of a page for the children to practice using the sewing machine and becoming familiar with it This is the best of the teaching to sew books that I have found to date and worth the expense If you want to teach boys this company also has a book with projects directed towards their interests: vest shorts tool holder workshop apron and pajamas It is titled Buckles and Bobbins
