I bought this book more for its suggested reading lists than for its instructions on teaching reading so I will keep my comments relevant to that portion of the text This book takes the tack that it is more important to encourage your child to love reading than it is to force him to read Great Works As a mother of a reluctant reader I applaud And I certainly don't mean to say that none of the wonderful children's classics are included in the lists far from it However there are also suggested several less-known books which might be just darned-fun reading Many of the suggestions are geared toward boys who can be harder to pleaseThat said I must point out that the book is badly in need of an update and a good copy editor Typos abound and some of the suggested reading is now out of printI look forward to trying to dig up some of these obscure out-of-print stories at the library

I was looking for an inexpensive literature curriculum that I would be able to use with multiple ages and multiple times.

Would this book help me work through literature with different aged children at the same time? I would like to teach my 5 and 8 year olds how to appreciate and understand/interpret good literature.

BEST ANSWER: Yes. That is (more or less) the basic goal/purpose of the book.
