Saxon Teacher for Algebra 2 (3rd Edition) CD-ROM Set
Category Description for Saxon Teacher CD-ROM Sets
One reason why Saxon math is a strong choice for homeschoolers particularly at the high school level - is the depth of support that's available. With the development of the Saxon Teacher CDs, there's even more support. Available now for Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Advanced Math, Saxon 5/4, 6/5, 7/6, and 8/7, as well as Math Intermediate 4 & 5 and Algebra 1 (4ED) and Algebra 2(4ED), Saxon has provided a user-friendly format CD-ROMs used on a computer. There are four lesson CDs and one Test CD for each course. The lesson CDs provide comprehensive lesson instruction which includes working all the sample problems. Also, the solution for EVERY problem in the lesson - both the practice and the problem sets - is provided in step by step fashion. These solutions are very easy to navigate. You can proceed through the problems one by one or go directly to any particular problem. All instruction, problem-solving, and solutions are given as background voices with the accompanying steps appearing as "black-marker-writing" on the computer screen. To avoid monotony, the voices change sometimes male; sometimes female; but always pleasant. The Test CD provides solutions for all the problems from each test. The Solution Manual will be redundant, as all the solutions are provided on the CDs and individual solutions can be printed one at a time after the solution is worked through on the screen. However, some may still prefer to have hard copy versions of all the solutions for quick reference.
We offer Saxon Teacher individually for users who already own the corresponding Saxon curriculum, or packaged with Saxon Home Study Kits for even better savings. I would highly recommend purchasing this set with your Saxon textbooks. My daughter has sensitivities to print. Could I use just this cd and not the student text? Is there anything out there where the text is on cd?BEST ANSWER: If you look at the way the lessons are set up. There are example problems throughout the lesson, followed by practice problems (labeled a, b,c...) and then the actual problem set. All of these are on the CD with step by step solutions. So I would say, yes she could use the CD for the instruction with the example problems, either skip the practice problems (if she feels confident enough to move on to the problem set) or watch them as well for more clarity, and then move on to the practice set as her assignment. She would need the text for the assignment, since the problem set is not printable from the CD. My son uses the CD solely for instruction in this way and has not had any problems as of yet. Saves me time since I don’t have to teach it and saves him time since he doesn’t have to read the lesson! My daughter has issues with print. The Saxon books especially are strong smelling and have an affect on her. I want to use Saxon becuase she is a part of Classical Conversations and everyone in her classes uses Saxon. So, my question is, can I get away with just using this CD and not using the text book? Is there any ebook options otherwise?BEST ANSWER: I don’t think you could get away with just the cd. The problem is worked out and explained while the original problem is being written. For example if the problem is 2+4= while the instructor is writing 2 she’s saying “this is a simple addition equation...” so your daughter will always get hints about how to work the problem. Will this work for 2nd edition Saxon Algebra 2?BEST ANSWER: The main difference between Saxon Algebra 2 2nd edition and the 3rd edition is the addition of the small reference numbers attached to each problem in the Mixed Problems sets. [a very welcome change] Although there might be a few other differences, I think you would be able to use the Saxon Teacher teaching videos with very little incident. I also think there will be minimal differences in the worked solutions to the problem sets. Be on the lookout for problems that might have been "tweaked" in a small way.what is the difference between this cd rom and the DIVE cd rom?BEST ANSWER: The Saxon Teacher CD-Roms include solutions/answers to each individual lesson problem within the books. The teacher also "teaches" the lesson, but basically by simply reading the lesson as given in the book itself. If you understand the math and have the Saxon Solutions Manual, you can use that book to explain any math corrections. Sometimes, however, it's convenient to have a student find the solution/correction on the CD-Rom in order to free up the parent's time. The DIVE CD-Roms, in contrast, include instruction for each lesson given by a professor who has taught homeschooled students. This instruction can help a student understand the lesson better than if it only simply is read out of the book. The DIVE CD-Roms do not include answers to all of the individual problems, however. I slowly have come to use both sets of CD-Roms in our homeschool.
