My daughter was left behind in the second grade she was in fourth grade when it was discovered that she was still only doing second grade level math not only could she not do the problems she had no concept of what the numbers represented She might know that 2+2=4 but then might guess that 2+3=12 They put her in special ed for two years and made no progress I pulled her out of public school and began to home school her I started her out with Saxon math 3 we worked at an accelerated pace and throughout the summer she completed Saxon 3 4/5 and half of 5/6 in one and a half years then took the Iowa basic skills test her score? Grade level equivalence 12th!!! Saxon doesn't just teach how to do the problem it explains the logic behind it Even I who minored in math in college can thank Saxon for finally explaining to me the reason for and logic behind exponents and square roots I truly believe that any child who uses Saxon Math in the lower grades will be able to easily learn algebra and other higher math

great material
we are enjoying saxon math this year. I had homeschooled up to 6th grade using another curriculum and wanted material that was more self-directed and would sure up what we had already covered. Saxon 7/6 has been just right for us. my daughter does her math independently, even grading and correcting her own work, but there are periodic tests so I can make sure she is learning. I love it!

Excellent!
Our 7th grader with ADD can work independently in this book, it by far has been the best curriculum we have ever worked in. New concepts are introduced slowly, and old concepts are continually repeated for retention in achievable lessons. She feels confident with every lesson she completes, b/c she gets more correct answers than wrong. An incredible confidence booster & brilliantly designed system of concept building. Very Happy!

Challenging and Complete
We have started working in the Saxon Text, it is a little challenging coming from A Beka but it seems to be a complete series and my daughter gets through it with oversight.

We used Saxon Math for the first time last year. This year, grade 6, we look forward to delving into the Saxon lessons. Easy to understand and the flow helps my son retain what he learns. The format is just right for us.

Simple to use. Comprehensive. Repetition helps knowledge stick and stay, and provides a nice rhythm for the student. He knows what to expect, gets good at doing it quickly and well. I have one who needs the repetition to learn and remember well. I have two others who learn math very quickly and remember well, but need the practice of focus, concentration and completing a task quickly and well. So Saxon works for all in our family, in different ways. It's very nice to have consistency also. Students seem to thrive with a balance of consistency and variety. Throw in a little fun, and they're happy! :)

Previous math program did not work for my daughter. I have heard good things about Saxon.
Eileen R on Mar 24, 2017
I've been using Saxon Math for my child for the last year. It has worked phenomenally well. This is a spiral curriculum which means that there is a small lesson on new topics with limited practice, then mixed review for each lesson. The daily facts practice has encouraged my child's recognition and memorization of math facts. If your child is struggling with math, I strongly recommend this curriculum for the struggling and on target learners both.

We love Saxon math and its spiral approach to learning. All of my children have done well with it so far and are doing a good job at retaining information. No, they're not going to remember everything the first time they do it, which is why I love the mixed review problems at the end of each lesson. All skills are re-visited nearly every day. I wish I had been taught with Saxon books in school.

My older son didn't seem to learn well from the program I used with him - once he got to high school, he really struggled with math. I wanted to make sure younger siblings did not have the same problem. Saxon has an excellent reputation, so we started with Saxon 6/5 last year. It seemed to teach younger brother the concepts better and give more opportunity to practice, including the incorporation of previously learned concepts every lesson. So I am continuing this year with level 7/6.

A shopper on Aug 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: As far as I know, it is not aligned.
Does this edition align with common core?
A shopper on Aug 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, there is a newer edition that goes along with common core. I'm trying to steer away from it. I love this set. I love the disk that goes with it as well. Amazing.
What year was this published?
A shopper on Jan 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I bought ours last summer June 2015 and the copyright date is 2005.
If I have 3 children in the same Saxon math level, would they each need their own text or just the text and worksheets?
A shopper on Feb 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The textbook has the lessons/explanations and questions/problems to solve. The worksheets book has the tests, timed/math facts daily tests, and any supplemental worksheets for selected lessons. The "teacher book" has just the solutions.
Balancing out frugality and ease of use, I would get 1 textbook, 1 teacher/solutions book and 3 worksheet books.
What year was this published? Does it have timed tests for every day and mental math?
User on Jan 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The copyright date is 2005. There are timed tests for every lesson. There is an investigation after every ten lessons, and there are tests every five lessons(starting at lesson 10). On investigation days, there is no timed test. But there is on test days. There is a box at the beginning of every lesson with mental math, and a special problem to solve. Then the student reads the lesson, then does the lesson practice problems. Next is the Mixed Practice which is 30 problems from all the lessons before including that days' work.
I'm looking at ordering your complete kits, but I need a different math level than what they come with. Is there a way to switch them out?
Amber B on Aug 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We are not able to make any changes/substitutions in the kits. However, the consultants are happy to work with you to develop a custom curriculum plan based on the kits. (There's no charge for this service.)
