Mom is learning, too!
I don't know where my head was when I took history classes in school, but now I am learning alongside my student! The lessons are short, but packed with interesting info in a conversational style that is easy to follow. I love seeing biblical history meshed with "textbook history." (Somehow the two were separate in my mind?) We aren't doing as many of the "younger student" projects as I had envisioned, but are learning just the same. I don't feel like we're leaving anything out, and when we want to dig deeper we just head to the library.

Accessible, Quality Scholarship for Students
Presents history as the unfolding of God's purpose for his creation of the world. Thus, it makes sense and gives the student an understanding of how human actions and events are all part of one big, continuous reality as described in the Scriptures. For a student's first serious study of history, I have not found a better resource on the market (and I've surveyed the market thoroughly). Very well done.

This is absolutely the best history program around! I am ashamed to say that although I was at the top of my high school class I never learned alot of this and I never liked history Now I love history!!! I have just as much fun learning as my kids do I have an 11th grader and a 5th grader so there isn't a lot of things they can study together but this is one of them Our favorite thing about MOH 1 & 2 is the way you learn history around the world chronologically I may have learned what happened in different parts of the world or in Biblical times but had no idea how it tied in to the rest of the world until we found this! Our other favorite part is the many many choices of activities to reinforce what you learn especially the timeline books to read crafts recipes and especially the great movies we've found to watch and be able to count as history! We are anxiously awaiting Vol 3! My daughter now realizes she will graduate before all 5 volumes are completed and has said she will still come back and do history with us! This is one curriculum we will never resell we'll just reuse it even for fun and especially for reference If only there was a curriculum like this for all subjects!!!! Then we would love them all and beg to always be 'in school'

Where do I begin about this product? We love everything about it! I used this with my Kindergartner and 3rd grader (My 2 year old even did a lot of the activities!) Each lesson is written very well and from a Biblical point of view At the end of each lesson is an activity you can choose to do For instance when we studied the ancient Egyptians we wrapped the kids with toilet paper like mummies and we made a map of Egypt with a cake! (YUM) There are activity suggestions for younger middle and older students so this is a wonderful curriculum to use with all your kids! The activities were easy to do and really made all of us LOVE history not to mention my children even remember what we have learned because of them Each week there is also a mapping exercise so geography is covered Your kids work on a timeline and there is also a test or review at the end of each week By far this is my very favorite curriculum! I would recommend it to everyone!

I can't say enough about this wonderful history curriculum! It is so easy to use; just pick it up and go My 9 year old daughter enjoys it and has learned so much this year You have to plan a little for the activities but most of those are easy to implement They are also optional on those very busy days The timeline work is very good to help reinforce learning I wish I had learned history this way I love the Biblical aspect of it and plan to go on to Mystery of History Volume 2 next year It is a very good value and can be used with different ages I love it

Our family absolutely loves Mystery of History It is the one class that all three of my children (in grades 3-8) look forward to every week There are a variety of suggested activities to go along with each lesson that are easily adapted to different grade levels with very little prep time only requiring common household items The timeline is easy to make and is an excellent way to review previous lessons My kids are all retaining what they have learned by using this method A world atlas and/or globe are very helpful tools to easily add a geography lesson into the weekly lessons We will definitely be purchasing the rest of this series

I was looking for a program or book that gives a general overview of history from a Biblical perspective As a Christian who believes the Bible is true from beginning to end it was really important to me to find a history book that starts at the same time without adding "pre-history" This was perfect in that respect Of course it covers Biblical history (it's really nice to find out what time things actually happened!) but it also covers other cultures and countries This is a very easy to use book just pick up and go after reading the introductory information Ms Hobar has lots of suggestions for activities to do with each lesson and an excellent extra reading list The reading is generally only about two pages so I'm really glad she included a reading list so we can go more in depth when we want to Since my school child is only 8 we're hopping around to what interests us and keeping a simple timeline in a composition book When he's older we're going to go through in more depth I prefer to purchase books that I'll be able to use with all my children and that are pretty comprehensive and flexible and this book fits that bill Volumes 2-4 are already on my wish list Overall this is an excellent book and I highly recommend it

We are using Mystery of History for the first time. We are enjoying studying from creation to crucifixion. It is interesting to learn how it all fits together in world history. There are endless possibilities with this curriculum. We spin of the daily lesson and can add videos, crafts, vocabulary words, math problems. It is a great fit for us.

My children, 3rd and 7th grade, are doing World History this year. I wanted a chronological history that told the history of the world, while including which Biblical events were going on. I have always wanted to learn what was going on all over the world at the same time, as opposed to what was going on in one place over all of time.

My son and love this book. Not only is biblical history given, but world history as well. The stories are short, so the child is not overwhelmed. Also. at the end of each story an assignment is given based on your child's ability. You have assignments for younger, middle or older students. The assignments vary from lesson to lesson. I like that there are research and writing assignments involved. We plan to continue using the series in the years to come.

I am a CM educator with a passion for the historicity of Scripture. I prefer to study world events chronologically across cultures, rather than study (Egypt/Greece/Rome) culture in a vacuum. I plan to spread this resource over 2 years in order to add living books. We will not do the activities etc, but will use CM methods to secure understanding. After vol 1, we will likely be done with MOH, as other time periods do not have the same challenges as ancient history.

Searching for a Christian worldview history book. We have been finding some secular books that speak about other events happening in the world at Colonial times, etc. and find that to be a more rounded approach. Goal is to help my children understand that although the Bible is not meant to be a history book, these are real people, real events and fit into our world history.

I also really like that it doesn't just teach the Bible history or World history but put them together so there is continuity of learning. How much illustrating and such would we miss out on if we did just the CD's?
A shopper on Sep 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Do you mean just listen to the story on the CD's? Or do you mean just buy the extra resources cd? I don't have the extra resources CD but I do have the book and the CDs of the readings. The CD is only the author reading the exact words printed in the lesson in the book. It's usually about 1 1/2 pages in the book. She does not explain further, or offer any activities, or anything extra. The book is what has the teacher info, mapwork, pictures, quizzes and tests, and the activities. There are activities for each lesson for younger students, middle students, and older students, and sometimes more than one for some age categories. We don't do all the activities but we do some, as many as I feel we can allow time for in a given week. I do the program 3x/week with my kids.
Is this the latest revision?
Marsha Q on Oct 18, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It's the Second Edition, which is the latest as far as I know. We borrowed the First Edition from our library before we bought this. The Second is a bit larger with some updates to earlier scholarship and a few other changes. Either is adequate, in my opinion.

Searching for a Christian worldview history book. We have been finding some secular books that speak about other events happening in the world at Colonial times, etc. and find that to be a more rounded approach. Goal is to help my children understand that although the Bible is not meant to be a history book, these are real people, real events and fit into our world history.

I heard is a biblical and accurate response to history! Also, it includes events outside from Bible history that has taken place. Thorough.

I love that this program aligns with the bible and with regular history book for a complete history from creation to modern times.

I wanted to try something different than the Story of the World series we've used in the past. I particularly like how this first volume puts biblical history amidst the world history. I'm really looking forward to learning right along with my child.

I've had my eye on this curriculum for a long time now. It's finally time to scoop it up. I am eager to go through history at our own pace, branching off with unit studies and lots of fun activities. I am eager to pair this with the Brean Builders Science series. I can't wait for all the fun we have waiting before us!

I wanted a history curriculum that was Bible centered and God centered. I wanted to be able to create timelines and give my kids a good frame of reference as to how God has been working all throughout the times in history

I absolutely love this curriculum! As we have been reading through it, there are many activities the my 10 & 8 year old both love to do that makes history come alive. I also really like that it doesn't just teach the Bible history or World history but put them together so there is continuity of learning. It pulls may things together and looks at history through the eyes of the Bible!

We love Mystery of History and have used volumes 3 and 4 with the older children (and younger ones participated as well) . Now my younger children are needing to cycle around to ancient history, so this was our choice!
