I bought this as a history supplement to our middle ages history year.

My fifth grader has been reading Our Island Story independently but I find that he is struggling to make sense of some of the stories. We read several chapters from this book and he likes the style of writing better. I think the comprehension guide will help him to make sense of the characters and setting as well.

It works well as a bare minimum spine book for the study of Medieval history in eight grade. I flesh it out with good literature.
Also, I like the classical illustrations.

We've used both Famous Men of Greece and Famous Men of Rome and they are very informative and engaging. The workbooks require reflection on the material and help the student make the material his own. I love the way it shows how our nation was influenced by these cultures before us.

I have used the Famous Men series for studying Rome and Greek Mythology with my children and they love the stories. Everything is connected to a person and the flow of history is wonderful.
