Learning with ziggy cut out games
This book is full of learning games, you have to buy file folders, tear out the game pages and glue them onto the folder then you have to cut out the pieces( I also laminated mine) its a lot of prep work, but the kids love ziggy games and reinforce and teach them! They love it and its great in our morning basket!

eh
We bought this, and I made up all the folders. My son doesn't really want to do these. So not a useful purchase for us.

Good for reviewing
We like the games from this book. Each one is used to review phonics or words. It makes the reviewing fun for the child because they have a goal in mind...like collecting sea stars, or coins. And the child can play alone when needed.

My children enjoy Ziggy from the pre-reading program. This would make a great reinforcement in their reading skills while having fun playing "board games".

Is this necessary to the AAR program? I understand that it's fun. Would you say it makes the AAR program MUCH more fun?
User on May 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: It is not needed at all. It is helpful only if you want pre-made games to reinforce some lesson concepts. Some of my kids like games and it helps concepts stick. Other kids would rather just keep moving and skip the games. There is nothing that you could not just make up your own game for. It is not mention in the Teachers Guide lessons but the game book tells you when you could use them. All the games have to be cut out and assembled. So, depends on what you want to do, and what type of learner your child is.
Can this be used with the first edition of AAR level 1 or does it only correspond to the 2nd edition?
User on Jul 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It works with either. I used it with the 1st edition of AAR this past school year. It is supplemental practice, so is basically several fun games to review consonent/vowel concepts, sounds, word cards, and other concepts. Games are added after certain lessons have been finished, so it isn’t tied to the book lesson by lesson, which is why it works with either edition. It made the extra review I needed for my second child much more fun!
