We have been so focused on language arts skills for the last year that we have skimped on math This year math is our focus After finding that my son's math skills placed him between 1st and 2nd grade I began looking for a complete curriculum that would provide a good solid review of the math skills and concepts that he should have before moving on I did not want something that had too many problems for him to complete in one setting He feels overwhelmed and like he will never finish if there are too many problems so we end up breaking assignments up into more manageable chunks I am glad that I settled on A+ I use the cumulative reviews on the CD and exams in the student work book to assess what skills he had mastered in the chapter and then we focused in on the skills he needed to master So far there has only been one exam and one skill that I have had to provide more practice as he was unable to demonstrate mastery of the skill My son loves the weekly progress certificates the program generates and the certificate he receives at the end of the interactive Q and A For us A+ has accomplished what I needed it to do--provide a solid review of math concepts in an easy to manage user-friendly way

I was initially excited about this program It seemed to have everything I needed and our four boys love the computer so after using four different math curriculums I decided to risk a relatively new product purchasing both the 2nd and 5th grade premium editions Unfortunately it was not up to par There is only one lesson per concept containing only one interactive quiz and worksheet If the child is unable to understand the concept fully there are no additional resources such as a second quiz with seperate answers for them to try or multiple worksheets This program only provides one of each If they do poorly on the quiz but are great at memorizing a few answers to multiple choice questions they can ace the quiz a second time around without understanding the material I found this to be true of the 5th grade curriculum as well In the second grade curriculum it went from subtracting with pictures to regrouping with two and three digit numbers in just two lessons assuming that the children had memorized their subtraction facts It took my little guys over an hour of frustration each just to take the interactive quiz with me reteaching the concept with manipulatives The boys really like the little frog though I did like being able to keep track of their progress in the parent/admin function That being said if I'm walking them through their quizes and worksheets because the program is moving forward too quickly than the child is able it doesn't really track any calculable progress Overall I think they are on to something here but it needs some definite work I think going at a slower pace providing multiple quizes and worksheets would be advisable If a child is able to grasp a concept quicker then the parents have the option of skipping the extra material and moving the child on It is not a product I would recommend at this time but if those changes were made I think I would be willing to retry it There are definite pluses to it I'm just not sure I would put an "A" in front of it at this time
