Really good text and workbook
I have really liked this set during the first 8 weeks of school. The text is well written and the review questions at the ends of the sections and chapters make for good discussions. However, I suggest NOT following every page in the home-school teacher's guide. I saw no academic advantage to spending 2-3 days 'introducing' the chapter; skip that and jump to the lessons. I like more discussion time on the reading, questions and workbook, plus I can use the 'saved' time on related field trips.

I have looked at several textbooks, and this one meets the TEKS standards, as well as provides colorful illustrations and more.

I chose this because it is one of only a few secular, well rounded courses out there. It is so hard to find secular curriculum that does not fall to the extreme of the other end of the spectrum. I want to teach my son history from a factual stand point, rather than an opinion. I don't want the facts colored by either religion or anti-religion..I want him to think for himself and form his own opinion. We have never used this curriculum, but are giving it a whirl.

I wanted a secular history curriculum. I like that it has a workbook and separate assessment book that I don't have to print out in order to use them.

I think my child would benefit from a textbook approach and a more orderly method of presentation than I have found from other publishers.

Does the CD-ROM have an assessment bank or pre-made assessments?
A shopper on Jun 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It has pre-made assessments for each chapter and unit. The answers are on the last page(s) of each PDF file, so verify the pages you want if you're printing double-sided. The answer pages are 4-up (4 sheets to a page) so the answer text can get difficult to read due to its small size.
