Wonderful!
We love this guide. It’s so simple but so rich with great ideas to add to the beautiful literature that goes with it. The maps are a great resource as well!

I was looking for activities to extend our study of rivers using the book "Paddle-to-the-Sea".

We are enjoying reading the Holling Books in our Morning Time and I have the accompanying BF maps but I need a bit of hand-holding to help me understand how to use a map with Tree in the Trail. I would like to not have to figure this piece of our day out. : )

Are the maps your student colors and draws on included in the guide? Are they reproducible?
A shopper on Jun 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The maps are not included in the guide. However, the publisher does sell a set of maps to accompany the course (#049589). Their maps are not reproducible.

They can be found at this link:

What additional resources are recommended to read along with this course?
User on Nov 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The only required books are the 4 Holling C Holling books. But I suppose it would be a great idea to add your own literature selections that concern the geographical regions that you are coloring.
Can this be used with younger kids if the books are read aloud?

BEST ANSWER: So far we've only done the Paddle to the Sea portion, but I think this would work fine with younger kids. You can use the guide more as suggestions that you can pick and choose from for each lesson, which cover 2-3 chapters of the book at a time. I would say you would need a lot of parental involvement to help with the maps and supplemental research topics (for Paddle to the Sea, the first two lessons have you research Canadian geese, ponds, and ballast), and also prepare ahead of time so you know exactly what you're meant to do with the maps (or to decide which parts your kids would understand and enjoy). Also consider spreading each lesson over a couple days. There is plenty for younger kids to enjoy; you might want to just have fun the first time through, and in a few years, go back to it more in-depth, with the kids working more independently. (You can buy the maps separately.) My 5th grader was able to do most of it on his own, and was really thrilled to have 'his own maps'.
