A perfect pick!
This is quick, no fuss, effective, and easy. I wish I could find the same perfect combo for every subject! This has made language arts one of my daughter's favorite subjects. I love the direct scripting and built in review.

I really like this! The lessons are simple require little prep and it is very easy to use! I feel like it is thorough yet is not tedious for a 2nd grader The lessons are not lengthy but simply cover the point and we keep a notebook of what we do Highly recommend it!

We absolutely loved Level 1! We are looking forward to Level 2.

We started homeschooling with this series. I just completed the first level with my child and liked the simplicity of it and that it has a script. I also like the memorization component and that the timing works well with the concepts as we cover them in the Writing With Ease program. The only reason I chose to purchase this here instead of the Well Trained Mind Press is that they are currently experiencing some sort of delay in their shipping.

I like the Charlotte Mason style approach to learning, so this curriculum was recommended to me as a gentle way to teach Language Arts concepts through narration, copywork, dictation, etc. Looking through the table of contents, I liked the content that this level covers. I hope it goes well this year!

This was the Language Lessons that seemed to me to be the most helpful for a child of this age and also the most simple and orderly..... in other words, it seemed the best option :)
Kathleen B on Jul 5, 2018
Needed the next book in the series.

I use the First Language Lessons with my younger children because it compliments the Classical Conversations Foundations program well and helps prepare them for Essentials.

We have really enjoyed using FLL. It is a nice approach with a lot of meat.
Genevie D on Jul 1, 2017
Because our 1st grader son loved the level 1. And so did his parents.

I cannot afford IEW.... so I was looking for something more affordable, lessons in bite sizes, nicely incremental, with a good trajectory for Language Arts and Writing Comp. Not too easy, but not too bogged down either. I'm schooling 5 boys so I'm looking for something that builds gently and solidly. I've done Easy Grammar, which is pretty great and stress free. I want to give the First Language Lessons and Complete Writer Series a try. We will also be adding in Fix It Grammar for fun. Enjoy!

We have found First Language Lessons very useful to teach grammar.

We are using Level one. It just works for us. Short sweet lessons, easy to follow, repetitive so it sticks with my son. He even says let's do English it's fast!

Level 1 was fabulous and I wanted to continue. I love the lessons being scripted; there is less prep work for me and I don't have to worry about saying something incorrectly.

Josie B on Sep 3, 2016
Was recommended by friends, and since we are pursuing a more classical model of education, it fit right in.
Michael P on Aug 16, 2016
It was simple and clear, the kids picked up on the lessons easily. It was also concise and did not take much time.
Leslie S on Aug 16, 2016
Liked FLL level 1, easy to use with little prep. Might be overkill on the grammar needed for this age, so I will be picking and choosing which lessons to do to complement our other curriculum.

Great grammar program! I used Level 1 with my daughter and we have now moved to Level 2. Short lessons that keep her attention and repeat in different ways so that the topic covered really gets understood.

Does this book cover a complete Language Arts curriculum for 2nd grade?
Meggin S on Apr 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This book would cover the grammar portion of the language arts curriculum. It does not include spelling or reading. There is enough writing in the curriculum to count at this age. However, if your child is strong in language arts, you might also want a separate writing program to challenge them a bit more.
Is this all that is needed for first language lessons grade 2? Grade 3 has a workbook and instructor book.
Julie M on Nov 27, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Levels 1 and 2 only need the one book
