Great tool for teaching a reluctant writer!
Three things I love about this program are
1)The way it teaches writing is so Easy! Like doing a maze backwards!
2) It starts out at a really basic skill level
3)Weekly assignments are Not overwhelming

Elementary Writing Class
I'm teaching an IEW writing class for grades 3 through 5 at our homeschool co-op, and we're using All Things Fun and Fascinating. I LOVE this book! The lessons are well organized and interesting. The kids are not overwhelmed, and the book does a great job walking them through the IEW concepts!

Really great for 2nd/3rd graders!
IEW is always good, but really love this early introduction to their method for my 8 year old daughter. Really wonderful.

I have a dyslexic son who is a very reluctant writer I was also at a loss on how to break down the steps to the writing process into short teachable lessons I have to admit that after purchasing the "Teaching Writing Structure and Style" DVD set it helped but I was still overwhelmed A friend recommended getting one of the Student Writing Intensive DVD levels I was so pleased to find that included in that was a thirteen week plan to break up the three day seminar into smaller portions with practice in between Along with that I used the lessons from "All Things Fun & Fascinating" to stretch it out into a full year of writing I loved this book's engaging stories that my son can use for his lessons The conveniance of having material at my fingertips really took the stress factor out of having to come up with something to use for each teaching session Especially something that was just the right length and engaging enough to make the lessons appealing My son did well using these IEW materials They were instrumental in transforming our dreaded writing experience into something that my child could accomplish without tears and frustration It was so rewarding to see the smile on his face when he realized what he had accomplished That warrants a big recommendation from me

I let my children who are old enough for the course, a girl and boy 17 months different in age, choose which IEW syllabus they thought they would enjoy and they both chose this one. We are very excited to begin it.

This is a great writing program for young writers as they don't have to come up with their own subject; they can use the one provided and learn to write well with the lessons in the book.

I teach English Composition for our co-op. Kids write consistently fantastic compositions using the IEW method. This book is full of great material for a full year of IEW instruction.

IEW's books have greatly helped my 5th grade homeschooled daughter with her writing. In my opinion, this is the best writing curriculum out there!

Co-op class required text. We have gone through this book with another of our students. We like the IEW approach to writing for beginners - giving them sources to write from, helping them take notes, helping them avoid words that are used far too often, and adding style to their writing with sentence openers, prepositional phrases, adverbs, strong verbs and quality adjectives.
Nancy N on Jul 16, 2016

Can this be used successfully by a parent who hasn't done the Teaching Writing with Stucture and Style seminar? Thanks
A shopper on Jul 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: AFF is a delightful introduction for young writers to the IEW writing process. I would highly recommend this as first course for the kids. Although the very resourceful teacher will probably lead students through this course without too much trouble, I would highly recommend Writing with Structure and Style to simplify teaching. The children need not go through it. But knowing the basic IEW units upon which all these theme based curricula are built will make teaching a breeze for you.
What edition of this book is this?
A shopper on Jul 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: second edition version 2 January 2012
Is this for the student or teacher?
A shopper on Aug 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This book is for the student. Once you purchase the book, there is a free eBook that can be downloaded for the teacher. It has tips and lesson plans in it. I did not find the teacher book very helpful in using the program with just my child but if you are teaching it in a co-op setting or to a group of kids it would provide a lot of good information and plans.
